DeSantis endorses O'Dea in Colorado Senate race, bucking Trump
DC Examiner ^ | 10/23/2022 | David Drucker

Posted on 10/23/2022 2:25:57 PM PDT by Alter Kaker

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is recording a robocall for underdog Senate contender Joe O’Dea, a boost for the Colorado Republican after former President Donald Trump urged grassroots conservatives to abandon his campaign.

“Hello this is Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. America needs strong leadership and desperately. That’s why I’m endorsing Joe O’Dea for U.S. Senate. Colorado, please vote for Joe O’Dea,” DeSantis says in the robocall, a recording of which was provided to the Washington Examiner on Sunday by the O’Dea campaign. “I’ve watched Joe from a distance. And I’m impressed.”

In endorsing O’Dea, DeSantis is charting a course separate from Trump in the midterm elections and stoking speculation the two Republican heavyweights are on a collision course in the upcoming 2024 GOP presidential primary. Just days earlier, the former president lashed out at O’Dea, calling him a “RINO,” which stands for “Republican in Name Only,” and criticizing him for speaking openly about their disagreements.

Running in a blue state that rarely elects Republicans statewide and trailing Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO) in public opinion polls despite a favorable political environment, O’Dea’s strategy of distancing himself from Trump and taking centrist positions on certain issues is sensible. Bennet led O’Dea 49.5% to 42% in the RealClearPolitics average and has topped his Republican challenger in all six of the most recent surveys.

I’m just not missing John McCain enough to want to vote Democrat-Lite right now. Sometimes a Rino can do more damage that a non-camouflaged Dem. I may hold my nose but every time that I have in the past I have regretted it. It’s bad enough that we still have Mittens in the Senate.

The only way to Federally codify Rowe vs. Wade is to make a Constitutional amendment. This court has ruled that Roe v. Wade - like the Dredd Scott decision - was wrong. That it was not in the Constitution. It is up to the states.

It wouldn't take a Constitutional amendment. Just passage of a law.

The article says it was sensible for O’Dea to not mention trump. Has anyone told O’Dea his sensible strategy has him down 6pts in a republican year?

Right, maybe he should avoid anything that isn’t safe and cower in his basement.
There's proof that actually works worked..

This is trolling to cause static between the two camp’s supporters.

Yup, the person who posted this article has a history of popping up a few months before the elections and just posting FUD articles on Republicans. I figure he must be some Dem interloper. But that is not all bad, nothing wrong in hearing what the Marxists are saying about certain issues.

It doesn’t bother me, I will just call it out.
And, you can learn new arguments from other FReepers that are on your side, but present a better or a more thorough case.

It’s like Beatlemania except with a politician.
One thing's for sure. There won't be any arenas packed with supporters for either one of them...or even both of them.

Well...Trump truthed about this as a big mistake with a picture of DeSantis O’Dea and DeSantis. I think DeSantis should hope O’Dea doesn’t get in because if he does and becomes Liz light as he jumps on CNN daily calling out Trump DeSantis will absolutely be tied to him, by Trump himself. The Republican primary is going to be brutal.

I’m already done with that Repuke DeSantis. Trust him as much as any other politician. He shouldn’t back down at all. He should shoe his true colors. The sooner the better.

DeSantis can and should build his own identity as more than a Trump yesman.

Wrong ace. Trump is right on every issue. Just where should DeSantis divert from MAGA?

I hope Desantis is indeed STUPID enough to go against Trump in the primay so Trump can crush him like a zit. The little Republican dauphin in waiting needs to learn his palce.

Ita not about that. Do you fix the party with more Liz Cheneys? Would you rather Liz Cheney in the Senate or a Democrat in her place. It comes down to this. No need to attack peoples faith. Some people think having the extra vote is critical and some think that Liz Cheney holding a Senate seat for 6 years would do far more damage than an open Rat. If this guy is going to be on CNN every day attacking Trump, Jan 6th, Jan 6th Jan 6th and calling for a federal law codifuing Roe is that for the best if he votes for a few extra judges? Meh.
