Fox holes... my father lived in one in France during the war. they dug one for 1 day or more... as he trekked across France after landing at Normandy... traveling wet and cold, the hole was warmer than the open air.

when they landed at Normandy, they were not the first but soon after... their orders were to get off the boat and run for your life to get past the germans upon the hill shooting at every person running.. some didn’t make it.
Orders were to not stop and help a fellow soldier... just run and don’t stop.

Today, congress and comfortable people here in our country... you have what you have because young men fought and died to keep this country free!! Remember that the next time you see the flag...Our country didn’t just appear out there one day..It was paid for with blood and fathers, brothers, sons...

He was dropped in the swamps behind enemy lines to Morse Code position of enemy. Eventually, he caught Malaria. My father believed it was the patriotic duly of every American citizen to vote. He said if you didn't vote, it was like pis*ing on a soldiers grave because many died to give you that right to vote.
