I remember living, in Carlsbad NM back in 1960-1962, by people who spoke Spanish and had a great Spanish cultural influence. But the claimed to be Cherokee!
Then in OUR family tree we were told of a “GENUINE CHERO-KEE INDIAN PRINCESS”.
It showed up in the family records, and was mentioned where she had lived.
A quick look showed her to not be Cherokee but Italian-German.
On the other hand, my wife’s family tree actually shows some Cherokees in their background. Her cousin, living near Tahlequah is definitely Cherokee and is on the tribal roles.
....He is/was also NOT a native American.. if I recall, his heritage was Italian....Mama Mia....!! (also recall that in all of those videos in which he was featured, not one showed any kind of plastic trash...those ads were sponsored by the plastics industry if I recall their history......)
