How the GOP Can Kill the DOJ's January 6 Probe If They Retake Congress
Townhall ^ | 10/20/2022 | Matt Vespa

The Department of Justice needs funds to continue investigating the little three-hour riot that sent most of liberal America into paralysis. Most Americans have moved on, as they should, since most have no choice. Unlike the wealthy, over-educated snobs that infest the coasts and cities, we ordinary citizens must work for a living. They also see their degraded purchasing power as their paychecks cannot keep up with the historic levels of inflation that have beset the country. And maybe the hundreds of arrests the Federal Bureau of Investigation has made in this overblown investigation into what amounted to be a mass trespassing event and nothing more might have led to a massive squandering of DOJ resources. They’re throwing grandmothers who have cancer into jail.

The Justice Department needs $34 million to continue their January 6 hysterics, and NBC News frets that a Republican House majority might kill that appropriation (via NBC News):

The Biden administration says it is in critical need of more money to bring the Jan. 6 rioters to justice. But it’s not clear Congress will grant that request in a major funding bill planned for December. And if it fails to do so before the new year, a potential Republican-led House could imperil the resources they need.

With just weeks of work left in this Congress, the future of the sprawling federal criminal investigation into the thousands of rioters who stormed the building in support of then-President Donald Trump rests, in part, in the hands of congressional appropriators who craft funding bills to keep the government running.

“There are lots of requests,” House Appropriations Chair Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., said when asked about the Department of Justice's request for the extra Jan. 6 funding in the year-end bill. “We’re taking a look at all of them and seeing what makes it and seeing what doesn’t make it.”

The Justice Department has called Jan. 6 “the most wide-ranging investigation” in its history, with more than 870 arrests so far. For 21 months, the investigation, led by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, has largely been propped up with help from 93 federal prosecutors' offices from across the country who are volunteering personnel.

An Idaho judge sentenced a 69 year old grandma and current cancer patient to sixty days in jail for misdemeanor trespassing on January 6th. Pathetic.

They should be afraid that this ticket item won’t pass because it won’t—and we won’t have to hear the pervasive whining from the likes of Liz Cheney anymore because she lost her primary. This select committee would always be put into the congressional shredder once the Republican Party retook the majority in the House. It’s not shocking, and the GOP will retake the lower chamber in the coming weeks. It’s a foregone conclusion—Democrats only had a four-seat majority this session. They’re dealing with Biden’s appalling approvals, inflation, energy prices, and an economic recession. To compound Democratic struggles, Latino voters could sit out this election, torpedoing the party’s hopes out west especially.

But for sure, kill this probe, GOP.

They could have ended lots of probes into Trump but chose not to. In fact they supported them all and prevented Trump from stopping them, which was within his power as President, with veiled threats to join the dems in impeaching him if he did.

End the Jan 6 farce? I have absolutely no reason to believe the GOP will do any such thing.

How is this eye opening? IF they win and when they take office next year 1) hold press conference and say witch hunt is over 2) hold witch hunters accountable

The only thing the GOP is going to kill is time. Well, maybe a few unborn babies also.

“we won’t have to hear the pervasive whining from the likes of Liz Cheney anymore because she lost her primary.”

Dream on. She’s been auditioning for CNN or MSNBC anchor for the past year and a half.

Has Kevin McCarthy announced yet that he won't stop the January 6th Commission, but he will replace Cheney and Kinzinger with "better" Republican members?

I wish there was a committee investigating the George Floyd riots, but I’m not holding my breath.

McCarthy will get right on it.

The GOP rino cowards in charge already announced they surrendered. And that a hole McConnel already announced he will look for “bipartisan” legislation he can pass with the commies.

They're going to a Lawrence Walsh on Trump... Walsh indicated Caspar Weinberger in June... Then on the weekend before the 1992 Presidential Election he indicted him on a second charge... It worked.

After his (Caspar Weinberger's) resignation as Secretary of Defense, legal proceedings against Weinberger were continued by Independent Counsel Lawrence E. Walsh. On June 17, 1992, Weinberger was indicted on five felony charges related to the Iran-contra affair, including accusations that he had lied to Congress and obstructed Government investigations. He was defended by defense attorney Carl Rauh.

Prosecutors (Walsh) brought an additional indictment just four days before the 1992 presidential election. This was controversial because it cited a Weinberger diary entry contradicting a claim made by President George H. W. Bush. Republicans claimed that this action contributed to President Bush's later defeat. On December 11, 1992, Judge Thomas F. Hogan threw out this indictment because it violated the five-year statute of limitations and improperly broadened the original charges.

The MSM press loudly touted the indictment, and completely ignored Weinberger's vindication.

Right. Their concern will be ensuring the Minority feels they are being fair.

People are falling for Election talk.

I think Republicans should continue the probe and use the same tactics the Democrats have been using, call witnesses on why Pelosi didn’t order extra security for the day, how many FBI people were in the crowd, why hasn’t Ray Epps been arrested, basically figure out how the inside job was organized

Cheney auditioning for a job at CNN or MS NBC is like
a nymphomaniac auditioning for a job at a whorehouse!

She’ll get it!

I don’t watch those. Out of sight (and sound), out of mind. Which means I am less likely to go crazy.

Good points.

Also, McCarthy should use the same power that Pelosi did to name the new Democrat members of the panel. The Republicans will have a much larger majority in the House than Democrats did, so it would be good to see the Democrat side of the committee be reduced to two people who are from the conservative wing of their party.

Kill the Jan 6 probe?

HELL NO! Take it over. Its time to investigate:

- the FIB’s role in it. How many informants and assets did they have participating in it?

- Why wasn’t Ray Epps prosecuted? He was plainly urging others to engage in unlawful behavior.

- Why did Nancy Pelosi TURN DOWN President Trump’s offer of thousands of national guard troops in advance?

- Why was security so amazingly lax?

- Why are Capital Police on video ushering people in to the Capital building and even holding open the doors?

- Why hasn’t ALL the video been released? Only tiny snippets have been so far. This place is covered wall to wall with cameras. There has to be thousands of hours of video from different cameras

- Why did a capital cop shoot and kill an unarmed non violent 106 pound woman without warning for simply climbing through a window?

- Why did the DOJ excuse this and not charge Michael Byrd with murder?

- Was another protestor murdered by another capital cop? There is video of another capital cop repeatedly beating a woman over the head with a stick who is already on the ground. The latter woman died. How was this not grossly excessive force?

- By the way, where is the coronor’s report for this woman? Let’s see it.

- Why was this Capital cop not also charged with a crime?

- What about allegations of abuse/torture of Jan 6 political prisoners by jailers?

We have a LOT of things to investigate here. By all means.....continue the investigation. Oh...no Democrats are to be allowed on the newly constituted Jan 6 committee.

The Democrats are going to lose the House.

No amount of cheating is going to save them this time around. They barely cheated their way to small minority in 2020.

The Republicans will control the Jan 6 committee when they take over and then they can do a real investigation into the Jan 6 false flag operation planned by the Democrats .
