SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Some residents in one San Francisco neighborhood have resorted to arming themselves with baseball bats and tasers after the opening of the city's first pilot drug sobering center.
Adam Mesnik lives in the SOMA neighborhood and owns a business. He calls what he's seeing on the streets as "a period of insanity."
He's referring to what he and others believe is an increased presence of drug use, violence and crime on the streets since SOMA Rise opened in June.
Ghis, who provided us only with her first name, is a 31-year resident of the neighborhood and says, "More troublemakers settling in, feeling comfortable doing their drugs, pissing and sh**ting in the street blocking the sidewalks."
Residents and business owners say their complaints to HealthRight 360, the nonprofit running the center, have fallen on deaf ears and have resorted to documenting their struggles in phone camera videos and surveillance.

“Escape From San Francisco”
They have the government they voted for.
The lunatics are running the loony bin.
I would normally say “they voted for it.”
But in California’s one-party state, it seems the electoral rules and processes are regularly changed, twisted and manipulated to ensure that only one point of view ever wins.
I left my shit in San Francisco
High on a hill it calls to me…
Just another day in Pelosiville
9MM or .45 ACP is the way to go.
“Escape From San Francisco”
Use the right name. Its Pelosigrad
“They have the government they voted for.”
Pelosi
These days, I'll do everything I can to avoid visiting any part of Frisco (Friscans just HATE it when you call Frisco Frisco).
The best view of Frisco?
In your rear view mirror.
I can understand the tasers, but having bats flying around freaking out former drug abusers is just cruel.
Remember that old show, The Streets of San Francisco?
yeah ...nevermind.
Remember the Rice-A-Roni commercial: “The San Francisco treat”?
As an SF resident, I freakin’ love that show. The plots were mediocre, but Malden and Douglas were a great duo and it’s fun to see SF 45-50 years ago.
How are things there? Are you in a good neighborhood? Are the problem confined or widespread?
You idiots voted for this and deserve everything that happens in your neighborhood.
I went to San Fransico Opera House on my one trip to California..... and even then was astounded of the urine odor on that street. I can’t imagine what it must be like there today.
As SF goes, my neighborhood is perhaps slightly above average. There are no homeless/drug users hanging out on the street near me, but that’s reality in more of the city than ever. The level of open drug use and crazy street people is higher now than it’s ever been. So many restaurant and business failures over the past few years. Financial/Union Square area is deader now than it’s ever been in my lifetime. So the situation is indeed bad.
With all that said, the weather is still good. The bay is still gorgeous. The Golden Gate Bridge is still standing. If I walk along Marina Green on a beautiful day and watch the sailboats out on the bay or hike through the Presidio, I’d almost think everything was fine. The restaurants in North Beach are still dishing out delicious ravioli and pizzas. So, it ain’t the hell some imagine, but the town has definitely declined.
ROFLMAO. SUCK IT libs and enjoy the mess you created
