In interlibrary loan at two university libraries for decades I oversaw borrowing a lot of books from the Library of Congress.
Most interesting to me was a professor whose research included a number of volumes from the Yudin Collection which were physically used by Lenin himself. Not a fan of Lenin but it was weird that I handled volumes he had handled.
Writing to his sister on March 27, 1897, Lenin says, “Yesterday I visited the famous local library of Yudin, who welcomed me cordially and showed me his collection. He also gave me permission to work in his library. . .”
Well, that’s definitely a great “librarian story”!
