Oh my GOD...I believe the sanest Portland is the town in Connecticut...
Funny.
Spoiler to last lines: The first humans here had pale skin.
Everybody else is a newcomer.
Here is the long Scientific American article on the others who lived here BEFORE the so called Native American tribes.

Prehistoric humans — perhaps Neanderthals or another lost species — occupied what is now California some 130,000 years ago, a team of scientists reported on Wednesday. NY Times.

The earliest populations in the Americas, before roughly 10,000 years ago, are known as Paleo-Indians.

What color skin did Neanderthals have?
Ancient DNA contains clues about complexion. An analysis of 50,000-year-old Neanderthal DNA suggests that at least some of the ancient hominids probably had pale skin and red hair.

Indians are too busy running their casinos.
It’s possible that there were Neanderthals in the New World, but I don’t think it’s been proven.
I’m no expert on this stuff.
Just happy to watch Leftists squirm when they find out their “Native Americans” were latecomers.
And they don’t live one with nature and look up to the night sky and seek their spirit in the great beyond.
They were expert sadistic torturers of pioneer families who had the audacity to want to live on the land which was 99% empty. Racism against whites was the origin of the sadistic killers resenting them.
“It’s important for people to understand why they don’t see Native Americans in southern Maine anymore”
We fought over land. We won, they lost. Hundreds of years ago.

In the 1960s, there was an absurd attempt to attribute the name "America" to some (fictional) Central American tribe. The real story is the one we've all been taught -- that the name comes from Amerigo Vespucci.
There was no one name for these continents before, because Precolumbian tribes were polyglot and at each others' throats for thousands of years before 1492.
Now their descendants call themselves Native Americans, while it's obvious that everyone born here is Native American, and the very name of the continents is itself "colonizing" and "white supremacist". :^)
The first X-Files movie opens with that scene showing Neandertals in Texas 35,000 years ago, that was the peak for that particular movie. :^)
