You might ask China, who is hell bent on expanding their own “blue water navy.”
We could easily tip the balance of power back to us in the Pacific but their is no interest in it from the Pentagon. The simple solution: Heavily armed Corvettes like the Israelis use...16 VLS, 16 more harpoon launchers, ASW capabilities, even a helo deck. Keep these distributed amongst the friendlies.... the Navy hares small ships.
The “experts” around here are convinced that our missiles could shoot down the Chinese missiles before they turned our carriers into swiss cheese.
I would not want any of my kin on board those ships finding out the hard way....

I fear for us if a shooting war starts. At sea we will lose many ships before we realize that WW III will not be a re-play of WW II. The American public will he shocked and horrified to watch the video of one of our vaunted carriers rolling over and taking 2,000 Seaman and woman to Davy Jone’s Locker. Would our enemies show us—you bet. We have not had to fight an industrialized power with a navy since 1945—we may well have lost our edge. One thing to fight 3rd world backward states with a tin-ot dictator—a whole different thing to battle a well organized modern nation Hell bent on our destruction.

Actually, the Chinese are trying to duplicate our naval vessels.

The (R-2 D-2) CIWS is supposed to be very effective against anti-ship missiles. The trick is to spot them far enough out not to get fragged when they are destroyed.
