THE DAILY CHART: LONG EXPENSIVE COLD WINTER AHEAD
powerlineblog.com ^ | 10/17/2022 | steven hayward

Never mind shortages of natural gas here and abroad: we may be running short of diesel fuel before long. Energy analyst John Kemp reported the troubling picture last week:

Global shortages of middle distillates such as diesel, gas oil and heating oil are intensifying rather than easing – making it more likely a relatively severe slowdown in the business cycle will be necessary to rebalance the market. U.S. inventories of distillate fuel oil depleted to 106 million barrels on Oct. 7, the lowest seasonal level since the government began collecting weekly data in 1982.

Given how much of our goods transportation (think trains and trucks) use diesel, this is going to be another upward force on inflation.

Here’s what the chart looks like:

Bonus chart to start the week—a startling graph that underlines the reckless irresponsibility of Joe Biden:

I know I’m a total ‘mom’. But, since my son travels internationally 3/4 of the month, every month - I’m getting him a heating pad to shove in his suitcase. He may rolls his eyes when I give it to him, but when they turn down the thermostats in the hotels this winter, he may end up thanking me.

He has the adapters for his other electronics. Will a hearing pad be an issue due to the type of device it is tho ?

The adapters just need to be able to handle the current that the pad uses. If the adapter is undersized it could lead to a fire risk.

I hate to burst your bubbles, but several sources are also predicting severe weather this winter... especially the Rockies, most of the U.S. eastern states, and Europe:

Farmers Almanac: Extreme Winter Forecast For 2022-23

Europe Severe Winter Forecast Coming for Winter 2022-2022

Winter Outlook 2022-23 Has Colder Risks For North, East

I plan to stock up on gas for the generator...

Ohh yeah ... I won't be able to afford Biden's gas...

Home heating oil has shot up almost $1.50 / gallon in the last couple weeks.

I had suspected that the democrats might have manipulated the price to bring fuel prices down before the elections to buy off voters and votes, but they are going to have to work really hard at it this late in the game.

The elections are not that far off and if this continues for the next week, it’s only going to hurt them.

At least there would be some good coming out of this economic disaster unfolding before our eyes.

Live in the northeast - just topped off my oil tank ($784) and have 2 cords of wood split. (Urging wife and daughter to “put on another sweater, already...”)

Yep.

This worries me. We use fuel oil to heat our house.

This alone, propane costs, will drive many out of rural homes. Living alone during winters on an 8 acre farm home...about 500 gallons of propane for an average winter...price back then was .99 to $1.50/gal.
