BREAKING: McCarthy signals GOP-led House likely to oppose more aid to Ukraine

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) is signaling that if Republicans win the House majority in next month’s midterm elections, the GOP is likely to oppose more aid to Ukraine in its war with Russia.

Since the invasion in February the majority of congressional Republicans and Democrats have united in authorizing billions of dollars in U.S. military and humanitarian assistance to Kyiv as a geopolitical and moral stand against Vladimir Putin’s aggression.

McCarthy, who could be House speaker if Republicans triumph, indicated that that could end in a GOP-led House.

“I think people are gonna be sitting in a recession and they’re not going to write a blank check to Ukraine,” he recently told Punchbowl News. “They just won’t do it.”

McCarthy suggested that Americans want Congress to focus on issues closer to home.

The United States has authorized upward of $60 billion in aid to Ukraine, with more than $18.2 billion in security assistance given since January 2021. The Senate voted to finalize more than $40 billion in new military and humanitarian assistance in May, with Republicans being the only lawmakers voting against that package — the largest investment in Ukraine thus far.

Eleven Republican senators and 57 House GOP members opposed the legislation, arguing that more needs to be done to account for how the money is spent and to trace weapons and equipment sent to the battlefield.

What’s a “War is Not the Answer” Democrat to think?

This is probably why Ukraine is making this concerted offensive to retake eastern Ukraine. I don’t think they’ll be able to retake Crimea, though.

Go read the US-Ukraine Charter on Strategic Partnership.

Its exact language is the United States and our Ukrainian ally will never accept a Russian Crimea.

Which means we are in this stupid war till Ukraine gets their territory back.

About time. Actually stumbled upon a Rand Paul campaign event at a meat locker in my tiny rural community last week. He was great!

The warmongering RINOs are realizing it’s going to be hard to collect their graft after a nuclear war.

Why the Hell are they not opposing all this money now, why do we have to wait for the Republicans to lead on this issue?????????? It’s always the same, when we get in!

For years there was a budget debate in Congress, back when a Million dollars was important.

Then, for years there was no budget except to carry forward the same budget each year.

When will we once again have a budgeting process based on the needs of the people to have basic governmental functions financed?

From when does the unlimited money come? One never sees a public debate.

Do we not have to state from where the money will be paid to finance everything, including the financing of wars between others intended to mask the corruption of the power elite?

The country has not existed for some time in its original or intended form. My children will live with the consequences and will not even realize how it used to be.

What is truly sad, there are still people, especially here at FreeRepublic, who actually buy this cynical grandstanding. McCarthy will do whatever the media and Democrats tell him to do. Republicans don’t have the guts to stand for anything and they are easily rolled.

“Go read the US-Ukraine Charter on Strategic Partnership.”

I’ve read it. But accepting a Russian Crimea and fighting to dislodge Russia from Crimea are two different things. In the real world, such a dichotomy usually ends up being compromised. But, we’ll see.

What a piss poor time to announce this, with the Ukraine
making some significant headway to recovering their land.

Why not just call Vlad up and tell him to just wait for
a few months and he can have anything he wants?

We could use the money here.

Let the liberal elites and the Hollywood crowd send them their money. If it ends up in the hands of Hunter and the Big Guy, that’s their problem.

We know the purposes and they are to make himself look like a leader and that he is in agreement with most of the country. After the election and after he gets named Speaker, he will make Paul Ryan look like Douglas MacArthur.

My estimate is that there are about 30 million Ukraine workers who average $100 (US) per week. Ballpark, $5k/yr income. This means we’ve given Ukraine about 4 years’ worth of income for the WHOLE nation, ALREADY. And this war could last for YEARS. Further, there seems to be strong resistance to negotiating with Russia. So much stupidity.

“Why not just start it before January 3rd?...”

Two reasons:

1. They do not yet have the power to make the Neocons and their DNC Puppets have to account for their actions.

2. Most of the ‘independents’ are brainwashed by the media/Neocon cabal to think that there was NOTHING before Jan 24th that led to the Russian involvement.
