If you get laid off, it can lop off your eligibility to
receive a pension from the employer. It will not affect
your SS if you have your quarters in.

No, my point is that these days it is common for big companies to lay off older workers. And it is uncommon for companies of any size to hire older workers. So you have a lot of people. age 60-plus, who are unemployed even though not due to their own choice or desire. Right now, at least they can start taking Social Security payments at age 62 if they need money

But they won’t have that option If the Social Security age gets raised to age 70 , as some Republicans have proposed. Millions of unemployed seniors will have to wait years - until their 70th birthday - to begin receiving Social Security, and many will struggle financially as a result
