One thing Bill Clinton said in the late 90's about tax policy was unfortunately correct. When he was explaining why he was against tax relief and cuts, he said "we'd be giving the money to people who won't spend it right". He was correct in an economic theory kind of way. Of course who are politicians to dictate how stupid people spend their own money? But he was still right in cause and effect at that time.

It was a lot more than that. We blew through (and printed) $5 trillion in Covid relief:
$2.2 trillion, March 2020
$0.9 trillion, December 2020
$1.9 trillion, March 2021
I said at the time: "We'll be paying for Covid relief long after the pandemic is over."
