You guys are delusional. If every family in Israel having a relative in Russia makes influence for Israel, why don’t you think it works the opposite way?
Israel’s support for Ukraine represents the evil left-wing indoctrination by the Western media. It betrays everything Israel was built upon.
The problem for Israel is that it has left as a single US vassal in the area. To alienate a relatively friendly Russia is just plain stupid.
Comrade, you’re not on your own plate.
On what plate you are and about to get consumed?:)
“Israel can decouple from the West, and if they wanted, ally with Russia, then the situation becomes more advantageous for Israel?”
Ah, yes; Israel would ditch the West and align itself with the country that introduced the word pogrom to the world. Is that what you are suggesting? Israel has never had a better friend than the United States; and Israel knows the clown show that is the Biden administration is but a temporary burr under the saddle in US-Israeli relations.
And Israel knows full well of the duplicity and untrustworthiness of Russia. Israel knows full well of Russia’s close relations with and support of Syria, Israel’s enemy. Israel knows full well it was the Soviets (i.e., Russia) that armed and supported the Arabs in 1967 and 1973 in their wars against Israel.
Israel’s relationship with Russia would be similar to its relationship with Turkey: Very cautious; very situational.
“Should Israel get more involved into Ukraine?”
Well, thus far Israel hasn’t done much of anything to overtly support Ukraine. So, “getting more involved” would be relative, no?
“Would they not be perceived to be an enemy of Russia and thus engender great animosity from a much closer nuclear power?”
Well, given Russia’s very active support of Syria, and Russia’s increasing friendliness toward Iran — Israel’s most rabid enemy — Russia would be responsible for driving the wedge between Israel and itself. Besides, Iran — soon to be a member of the nuclear club — is closer to Israel than Russia is.
Israel should stay far away!
Agreed. Let them suicidal them selves. Eukraine most likely won’t exist in 2 years, wait till the Polish want their land and people back. Go look at pre WW2 maps.
And I have read that many Russian Jews in Israel still consider themselves to be Russian. That they are proud to be Russian, seeing themselves as part of a great culture.
They are especially proud of the old Soviet Union and the Red Army, which they credit for destroying Nazi Germany.
An interesting article from The Times of Israel: The forgotten Jews of the Red Army.
Some colorful historical photos in that article.
Send me a note when Jews leave Israel for Russia.
