Agreed, but it still sends a message...well timed.

Southfield city clerk charged with 6 felonies tied to November election
Christine Ferretti
The Detroit News

Detroit — Southfield City Clerk Sherikia L. Hawkins was charged Monday with six felony counts over “unauthorized and inaccurate” changes to absentee ballots in the November 2018 election.

Hawkins, 38, was arraigned Monday in 46th District Court in Southfield on the charges, which include election law-falsifying returns or records, forgery of a public record, misconduct in office and multiple counts of using a computer to commit a crime.

Forgery of a public record is a 14-year offense.

Hawkins, a Democrat who just a few months ago was honored by the state party with the Dingell/Levin Award at its Legacy Dinner in Detroit, could not be reached Monday at her office for comment or a number listed in public records. Her attorney also could not be reached.

Hawkins is paid $101,500 per year in Southfield as the city’s clerk.

BUT, she had motions filed to toss out four of the six felonies and the court approved this for legal technicalities. Judge Leo Bowman released her from the charges of four indictments.
Two remain against her, thank goodness.

Election violation charges reinstated against Southfield city clerk Hawkins
Mike Martindale
The Detroit News

The Michigan Court of Appeals has reinstated four original criminal charges against Southfield City Clerk Sherikia Hawkins regarding alleged November 2018 election violations.
/////////////////////////
Hawkins has been charged with one count of violating election law by falsifying returns or records, a five-year felony that can include a $1,000 fine; one count of forgery of a public record, a 14-year felony; and one count of misconduct in office, a five-year felony that can include a $10,000 fine.

The other three charges involve the alleged use of a computer to commit the other violations.
/////////////////
Jan. 21, 2022. Now, the Michigan Court of Appeals has reversed Bowman and increased the number of live charges back to six, up from two. The panel rejected Bowman’s finding that a district court judge erred in sending her to trial on all six counts, after hearing evidence at a preliminary hearing.
//////////////////////////
Me: So the case is not over and she hasn’t been sentenced. Amazing how shoddy the legal system is. A wonder she and the Dems didn’t sue us for the emotional strain of facing her indictments for felonies.
