Chevrolet Corvette production idled again due to parts shortage

Chevrolet Corvette production will be idled the week of October 17 as parts supply shortages continue to affect the popular sports car.

The automaker did not say exactly what parts are responsible for the temporary stoppage at the Bowling Green, Kentucky, facility dedicated to the model.

Corvette production has been suspended several times since its launch in 2020, but it remains one of the best-selling sports cars in the U.S.

Chevrolet is in the process of launching the new high performance 2023 Corvette Z06 model, which has a starting price of $106,695, compared to the entry-level Corvette Stingray's $65,895.

Production is sputtering with unnamed supply shortages, not related to semiconductors.

I would suggest if you have a car that is an older model to get it repaired, fixed up, and in excellent working condition NOW, while you can.

The parts shortage for everything is going to be dire next year.

The local car commercials have gone from “drive away today” to “order you new car today” with a disclaimer that for all intents and purposes says you may never receive your new car.

I noticed that a couple of months ago. No cars available.

Caution to used car shoppers post-Hurricane Ian. Many, many flooded vehicles. Buyer beware.

Yours is very good advice and others should heed it.

Nice looking car but I would never buy a Chevy or any GM vehicle after seeing how they handled the start problem several years back (swept under the carpet though people died).

Toyota for me.

I have an old 2010 Toyota Rav4 with just 68,000mi on it.

The old thing will run forever I think...

I could use an old pickup though...

Toyota? No thanks:

You cited a 13 year old recall. Good luck naming a major auto manufacturer who hasn't had similar or worse. Toyota has fewer than most.

The parts shortage for everything is going to be dire next year.

I drive a 25 year old Volvo, and the parts shortage has been dire since 2010, when Zhejiang Geely bought Volvo from Ford, and Chinese management apparently decided that the old cars were best recycled into Hyundais.

(Thank Odin for eBay and the shipping container full of used parts my Volvo mechanic has stashed away behind his shop for the old cars!)

(For that old car and for our other cars, I have spares for the stuff that breaks a lot. And duct tape. Doesn't everyone?)

Because they insist on completely redesigning the whole vehicle from the tires up every year. And people are stupid enough to pay for all this unnecessary R&D and retooling so they keep doing it.

“ If it’s an EV now bury it.”

The problem discussed is lack of parts. EV’s have about 1/3 less moving parts.

“The local car commercials have gone from “drive away today” to “order you new car today” with a disclaimer that for all intents and purposes says you may never receive your new car.”

My son ordered a Ram 2500 at the beginning of this year. Their website at one point stated that it was in transit. After six months he cancelled and bought an almost identical model off another lot. He had to fight to get his deposit back. He kept tracking the one he ordered. It stayed in perpetual transit. I don’t think it was ever actually built.

Corvette LAUNCH in 2020???

IIRC, the Corvette was ‘launched’ in 1953 models.
