...eight months after Russia invaded Ukraine, Lukashenko’s Russian-enabled grip on power risks slipping as Moscow pressures him to get more involved in the faltering military campaign next door in Ukraine.
Artyom Shraibman, a Belarusian political analyst who fled to Poland after a brutal crackdown on postelection protests in 2020, cautioned that it was unclear exactly what Putin had asked of the Belarusian leader in St. Petersburg but, he added: “it is very clear that Lukashenko is not yet willing to join the war” because of the immense political risks that would bring.
Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, a Belarusian opposition leader and a 2020 presidential candidate now in exile, this week described any direct entry into the war by her country as “political suicide” for Lukashenko.
There has been a flurry of troop movement and other military activity across Belarus in recent days. But among the most conspicuous movements reported by the Belarusian Hajun project, which monitors military activity, has been the transfer by rail of Belarusian tanks and other equipment to Russia and away from territory near Ukraine, apparently to help bolster Moscow’s dwindling stock of hardware.
..Even without entering the conflict directly, however, Lukashenko is already struggling with a host of new dangers created by Putin’s invasion. These include a steady flow of opposition activists, who were previously committed to nonviolent protest, going to Ukraine to take up arms against Russia.
..“The main reason Lukashenko has survived so long is support from Putin. If Putin exhausts his resources in Ukraine he will have less left to support Lukashenko,”

1. Belarus ain't joining the invasion of Ukraine
2. Russian losses are far higher than Putin or his fr putinistas want to admit
this will lead to the same fate as the man below
As of Putin’s speech yesterday:
Total unconditional surrender of Ukraine.
Kazakhstan has ignored Russia asking to prevent men escaping the draft.
in addition, Kazakhstan refused to send weapons or even sell them to Russia to make up for Russian depleted stocks.
Alarmed by the prospect of their nationals returning home with combat experience gained in Ukraine, foreign ministries in Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan reacted swiftly to Moscow’s offer, reminding their citizens that fighting abroad is a criminal offense.
Kazakhstan openly refused to recognize Moscow’s recent sham referendums in occupied Ukrainian territory
Not going to happen towarisch.
Putin’s troops are losing ground daily.
tell your President Putin to withdraw from Ukraine

I make powidła śliwkowe every year. :)
Smacznego!
I had NO idea there was such a thing as lekvar pierogies. Thanks!
I've let it go for more than 48 hours sometimes.
Last year, I scored on a full 30 pound box of Oregon prune plums that my local fruit stand thought were too soft to sell, or were VERY over-ripe.
Turns out those are the best ones for this.
She gave me the box for free - but it was such a good score, I gave her a double sawbuck for it later.
ever suxk a salted plum?
“....transfer by rail of Belarusian tanks and other equipment to Russia and away from territory near Ukraine, apparently to help bolster Moscow’s dwindling stock of hardware........”
What I have read is that Russian conscripts and raw recruits are being sent to Belarus in box cars. With the problems Russia is having in eastern Ukraine, it would make sense to try a Blitzkrieg on Kiev to try to end the war quickly before Russia looses all of eastern Ukraine. Kind of a military Hail Marry.
My hope is that the number of body bags being filled with Russian soldiers gets to be too great for the public to stomach.
Family “Belarus doesn’t want to join a notoriously aggressive robber state with an incompetent, losing military force”
Kiryandil, cranked, go and ask your Kremlin contacts for a response why Belarus isn’t supporting your war in Ukraine.
They tried it in feb and failed.
With plums, lekvar hood, slivovitz better.
