U.S. grows frustrated over Europe’s delayed economic aid to Ukraine
Washington Post ^ | October 15, 2022 | Jeff Stein

Tensions are rising between the United States and its Western allies over Ukraine’s deteriorating economy, as American officials increasingly prod the European Union to ramp up financial assistance to the war-torn country.

On several occasions this week during meetings of global financial leaders in Washington, Treasury Secretary Janet L. Yellen called on her international counterparts to accelerate both the speed and amount of money going to Ukraine.

New projections from the World Bank last week suggest that Ukraine’s economy will contract by 35 percent this year, and the country’s financial officials say inflation could hit 40 percent early next year — close to economists’ definition of “hyperinflation.”

Exports have plummeted, tax revenue has crumbled, millions of people have fled and Russian attacks have pulverized critical infrastructure, including the electrical grid.

International assistance has not proved enough to make up the gap. Zelensky on Wednesday said Ukraine needs as much as $38 billion in emergency economic help from the West for next year’s budget alone. That figure excludes the additional $350 billion the World Bank has estimated will be necessary for Ukraine’s long-term reconstruction once the war ends.

Europe faces a severe economic slowdown and likely recession this winter as Russia chokes off the continent’s sources of energy in retaliation for sanctions imposed over the war. Inflation in Europe is continuing unabated, and energy prices have soared higher there than in the United States.

“We understand a lot of Western countries have their own issues and problems, but the current aid is barely enough to feed people,” Zablotsky said in an interview.

Zelensky became a billionaire within a few years of becoming president. How much money is he chipping in?

Nazi leaders get rich, just like all corrupt leaders. Look at Pelosi, Obama, Biden, Putin, etc. It doesn't matter what political system they are in. Zelensky is just one more.

That’s not true. He was only elected in April 2019 and is no billionaire.

Suddenly he’s surprised by this? This was one of Trump’s biggest gripes. No other nation paid their fair share towards joint causes and the US carried the weight with our $. Trump changed that.

Europe is getting war fatigue and starting to realize they are going to pay a heavy price this winter.

I know! I know!

Let's have another "We Are the World," Lie Aid concert or something. That always seems to solve everything... 🙄

Except for Britain, money and arms from Europe has almost dried up. They talk a good game but give essentially nothing. They know Uncle Sam will take care of it.

As Trump has said, European countries should handle European problems. The US must get out of NATO and let them grow up and be big boys and stop living free in our basement apartment.

NATO has become synonymous with US. They can’t breathe without US permission. This is wrong and must come to an end.

Article states.... Janet L. Yellen called on her international counterparts to 'accelerate' both the 'speed and amount of money'.... going to Ukraine.

Which evidences clearly the EU countries see this as O'Biden's War....a war Europe does not want responsibility for. ....Were it not for O'Bidens pitbull, Victoria Nuland, strong-arming Europe they would have never signed onto this.

This was about severing the relationship between Russia and Europe - and next O'Biden will attempt severing ties between China and Russia.

The Euroweenies aren’t as quick or as capable of conjuring money out of thin air like JoJo. They are perfectly content to let us do it for them. Which is why the fate of Europe holds no interest for me. They have been puppeting us financially, militarily and philosophically (with Marxist theory) for the better part of our nation’s history. Their destruction is our freedom IMHO.
