In a first mission of its kind, the European Union plans to train Ukrainian soldiers on E.U. soil, the bloc’s top diplomat said on Thursday, a significant move that highlights the bloc’s increased security cooperation since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The mission is set for final approval on Monday during a meeting of E.U. foreign ministers in Luxembourg, the diplomat, Josep Borrell Fontelles, said.
“At the moment when Putin is increasing escalation, we have in turn to continue to support Ukraine as much as needed and for how long is needed,” he said during a meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels.
The European Union maintains military training missions in the Central African Republic, Mali, Mozambique and Somalia, but this would be the first time trainers from the bloc would help soldiers on E.U. soil.
The new mission, which has been championed by Poland and other E.U. nations near Ukraine, has been under negotiation for weeks. Some member states hesitated out of fear that the mission would increase the risks of becoming embroiled in the war, diplomats said, but eventually relented.

Ukraine is now a welfare state, with no hope of recovery. Manufacturing and economy destroyed, military bleeding out more every day-they will drag down the West to “ irrelevant “ ( and bankrupt) status.
The Europeans won’t have to teach the Ukrainians the Roman salute, so they got that going for them.

While of the third stance some FReepers hold -- not my circus and not my clowns -- my comment is not about Ukraine nor Russia. It is about the comedy gold (and green) which the EU has managed to create in these last years. Another, AND once and for all. Until the next first and the next once and for all.

Or you may be referring to the French in WW2 who, although completely cut off and heavily outnumbered, fought on for four days under General Molinié in the Siege of Lille, thereby keeping seven German divisions from the assault on Dunkirk and saving an estimated 100,000 Allied troops?
Or the French at Dunkirk itself who kept up a front 25 miles wide while the English used everything that could float to rescue the English army?
