China's ultra-strict COVID-19 curbs are taking a toll on businesses and jobseekers as Beijing stresses again and again the need to maintain its zero-tolerance approach to the virus, to save lives, if not livelihoods.
Since 2020, China has reported 5,226 COVID-19 fatalities among its population of 1.4 billion. In contrast, more than 1 million people have died of the disease in the United States.
Keeping a lid on China's COVID-19 death toll has come at a cost to its economy.

Call me cynical, but neither of those numbers are believable.

How many people die when jobs and businesses are crushed in a long term wholesale fashion?
They have the original owners manual. They know something the virus the rest of the world does not.
Either that or we are faced with an unpleasant reality — they care more about their elderly than about money. And we don’t.
Their death numbers are unlikely — unless the crafted the virus to spare Chinese, or Asians. It wasn’t until mutations arrived that Asia numbers got ugly.
But best to note US deathcounts have never been noted as sparing Asian descent people.
