Russian Lawmakers Propose Granting Prisoners Amnesty For Enlisting
The Moscow Times ^ | Oct. 13, 2022

Russian lawmakers have proposed a bill that would allow the granting of amnesties to prisoners enlisting to fight in Ukraine, according to Senator Olga Kovitidi on Thursday.

"If a convict shows courage and heroism while performing military duty … the court may release him from serving his sentence … or commute the remainder of the sentence to a milder one,” Kovitidi said in a post on Telegram.

According to Kovitidi, the measures wouldn’t apply to those convicted of such recently-legislated crimes as "discrediting" or "spreading false information about" Russia’s armed forces, or for calling for sanctions against the country. People charged for taking part in anti-government protests also would be blocked from receiving amnesties.

Following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, representatives of the Kremlin-linked Wagner private military contractor and Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) have been offering prisoners deployment or work on restoring and demining occupied Ukrainian territories, according to activists and media reports.

Around 10,000 Russian prisoners, including a convicted cannibal, have been recruited by Wagner, the head of prison-monitoring NGO Russia Behind Bars, Olga Romanova, said in a YouTube interview last month.

The unconventional recruitment drive appears to be an attempt by the Russian military to replenish its forces that have been heavily depleted after months of fighting in Ukraine.

It’s perfect!

The criminals can get amnesty for enlisting.
Then they can run away as soon as they enter Ukraine.
And let’s hope that every one of them is given a tank that they can sell to the Ukrainians for $30,000 when they surrender.

Funny thing. When Columbus organized his expedition to the west, the Spanish Crown offered the prison population of Spain a commutation of sentence if they’d sign up to sail off the edge of the world. They did not get one single taker in the whole of Spain. I think if I were in a Russian prison, I’d probably pass on this opportunity.

I think it was Stalin who sent all of the prisoners to the Western Front as cannon fodder for the Germans. Sent them there without supplies, or training or, in many cases, firearms. They were told they would be shot from behind if they did not run toward the Germans.

They were often just given a clip of bullets and told they would soon be able to pick up a rifle off the ground next to a dead comrade.

“After six months, you go home, having received a pardon,” he says but they are warned that any deserters will be executed by a firing squad.

Most male prisoners have already had basic training in the military, they show a modest score on a physical fitness test and they are in. What they don’t tell them is they will be shock troops, and behind them will be troops pushing them forward, anyone who retreats, gets shot.

But if you don’t show courage or heroism, then back to jail with you after the Ukrainians are done shooting at you!

But the Kerch Bridge fiasco appears to be a tiny white lie compared to the monstrous prevarication the Biden Administration unleashed today with its publication of its 2022 National Security Strategy. Check out this whopper (see page 25):

Over the past decade, the Russian government has chosen to pursue an imperialist foreign policy with the goal of overturning key elements of the international order. This culminated in a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in an attempt to topple its government and bring it under Russian control. But, this attack did not come out of the blue; it was preceded by Russia’s 2014 invasion of Ukraine, its military intervention in Syria, its longstanding efforts to destabilize its neighbors using intelligence and cyber capabilities, and its blatant attempts to undermine internal democratic processes in countries across Europe, Central Asia, and around the world. Russia has also interfered brazenly in U.S. politics and worked to sow divisions among the American people. And Russia’s destabilizing actions are not limited to the international arena. Domestically, the Russian government under President Putin violates its citizens’ human rights, suppresses its opposition, and shutters independent media. Russia now has a stagnant political system that is unresponsive to the needs of its people.

A lot of lies packed into this paragraph. For starters, it looks like the Biden team is engaged in psychological projection when it declares the Russia is pursuing “an imperialist foreign policy” intent on “overturning key elements of the international order.” What? Russia did not “invade” the Donbas in 2014. Ukraine did that. Russia did not unilaterally intervene in Syria, it was asked to provide military aid. It is the United States that violated the supposedly sacrosanct international order by helping engineer the coup that ousted the democratically elected President of Ukraine in 2014, overthrew the regime of Muammar Qaddafi and supplied weapons and training to radical Islamists in Syria that tried to oust Syrian President Assad. Pot calling Kettle Black anyone?

The flood of propaganda and disinformation about Russia and what is going on in Ukraine is not likely to abate in the near term. In fact, Biden and his team appear to be doubling down on spreading outlandish falsehoods. Here is Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin’s latest ravings:

US secretary of defence Lloyd Austin on Wednesday hailed Ukraine’s “extraordinary gains on the battlefield”, which he attributed in part to “vital” support from Nato allies, including billions of dollars in military aid, along with humanitarian and financial assistance.

“Despite Putin’s new assaults, Ukrainian forces have changed the dynamics of this war,” Mr Austin said at a two-day meeting of Nato defence ministers at the alliance’s headquarters in Brussels.

“They’ve liberated hundreds of towns from Russian occupation. They’ve retaken thousands of square kilometres of their land,” said Mr Austin, who headed a US-led Ukraine defence contact group meeting.

Does Austin consider Ukraine’s failure to stop Russia’s missile bombardment of the last two days an “extraordinary gain” by the Ukrainians? As long as this kind of delusion infests Western leaders, the slaughter of Ukrainians will continue. If you encounter someone who insists that lies like these cause no lasting harm, you should arrange a trip for that person to the graveyards filling up throughout Ukraine.

—”A fresh horse turd rolled in powdered sugar still IS NOT a donut!!!”

Years back a very intelligent young man who worked for me made a grab for some fast money. Simply deliver this package from Texas to Chicago.

Two years in prison, two more years in a halfway house.
The company took him back and he is still there to this day.

He was stunned by how stupid most of his fellow prisoners were, not all but many.

At the halfway house they could not wash clothes or prepare a meal. He wondered how they survived if not living with their parents.

Perhaps Russin convicts are different?

Lack of survival skills or basic amenities at the flophouse?

—”Lack of survival skills or basic amenities at the flophouse?”

A male dormitory where the resident assistants are probation officers. And they attempt to control every facet of the resident’s time. The paycheck was sent to the dorm and the inmates had to report every cent they spent and it was disbursed in fractions, after an extended delay. My guy had a very good salary also a wife, and two kids. Sometimes delayed for months!
I was the contact person to verify he was actually working.
They would call at different hours in the day; I understand. They would also call late at night when he is on their site???

He also complained about the personal hygiene of some of his fellow inmates he believed that they did not know any better.

And the ones selected to complete their sentence at the halfway house are supposedly not hardcore criminals.
