USSR spending in Afghanistan was about 100x what they spent trying to counter Star Wars. It was our support for the Afghans that ended the Soviet Empire.

Well following on to that, it’s not the taxpayer bailing anyone out it is the FED Monopoly money. And it’s not FED Monopoly money printing press bailing them out it is the US bond holders bailing them out buying the bonds, to make the money printer to bail them out. But it is not the bond holders bailing them out it is the FED that bails out the US bond holders by printing the money to bail them out. I don’t know why she swallowed the fly, I guess she’ll die.
That $57 Billion will be spread across all donor nations, as well as likely some in the form of loan guarantees, in lieu of some direct subsidies.
The USA itself will likely not be expected to pay more than $50 Billion of it...
