An academic at a teacher training college has claimed efforts to improve vocabulary in schools are ‘racist, classist and ableist’.

Education is racist, then. So stop sending your kid to school.

The anti-literacy laws in the United States during the 1700s through the middle 1800s were aimed at those who would teach slaves how to read and write.
The Democrats proudly continue their tradition even though the laws have long been thrown out.

To paraphrase Orwell, you are what you think and speak.
If your speech is poor and you simply repeat thoughts and slogans you are given, then you are random, scattered and easily controlled

Right. Because unintelligible and illiterate is so employable. Nobody’s born speaking proper English. But those who do it well become far more economically valuable.

Here’s an appropriate attitude when confronted with people that don’t want to learn because it is racist or some other woke reason: “No handouts for you! If you want to be ignorant and you can’t get a job or support yourself, it’s your own damn fault.”

It does NOT have “colonial roots”

Dr. Sowell pointed out in one of his books that segregated black schools in the DC area once outscored their white counterparts on vocabulary and reading tests despite larger class sized, hand-me-down texts and every other disadvantage that you could imagine.
Because academics were important to the families who produced giants like Dr. Ben Carson, Justice Clarence Thomas, Jackie Robinson and others.
