The hail of indiscriminate missile fire across Ukraine this morning was Russia's brutal payback for the attack on the Crimean bridge.
Russian President Vladimir Putin called it the response to an "act of terrorism" which he blamed on Ukraine.
But it was also Mr Putin's response to hawks in his own camp who have been growing increasingly restless with Russian losses in the war and increasingly loud with their calls for tougher action.
Those pro-Kremlin officials and TV hosts who were depressed and dejected just days ago are now cheering this assault on their neighbour, gloating and even dancing in social media posts as Ukraine grieves for its dead and picks through the wreckage of multiple attacks.
The barrage of missiles was Gen Sergei Surovikin's first day of work.
Now in charge of Russia's war effort, his appointment this weekend was a sop by Mr Putin to the hardliners.
The general's CV includes the indiscriminate Russian bombardment of Syria and the death of pro-democracy protesters in Moscow in 1991 during the attempted coup, so he was already being described as ruthless.
This morning matched his reputation.
The Crimean bridge strike on Saturday pushed Russian dismay at the war's progress to a peak.
A symbol of Russia's claim to Ukraine - the illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014 - had gone up in flames and the loudest voices in this war, the hardliners, were baying for retaliation.
They had been calling for attacks on civilian infrastructure for some time: to freeze the Ukrainian people into submission this winter, if their soldiers can't be beaten on the battlefield.
"When will we actually start fighting?" propagandist Vladimir Solovyov demanded to know, arguing it was better for Russia to be feared than laughed at.
So today, Kremlin loyalists are celebrating.

How impolite given that the Ukrainians have used civilians as human shields, targeted civilians in Donetsk, shelled a nuclear power plant and used a bomb to kill Daria Dugina.<P.
It’s Ukraine that has consistently refused to negotiate an end to this war and leave Russia and the ethnic Russian population in what used to be eastern Ukraine alone.

Ukraine has been clear: the war can end if Russian soldiers leave Ukrainian territory.
Russian has been clear: the war can end if Ukraine reforms itself into a Russian satrap and gives up sovereignty.
“Indiscriminate missile fire” used here is pure propaganda. The Russians knew their precise targets and hit them.
Apparently, the Russians were not “out of missiles” as Western media had absurdly claimed recently. Nor, is Russia “on the ropes and in tatters.”
Zelensky tried to dial 911 today but NATO did not pick up.
Watch for Zelensky to get out of Dodge and head for one of his many overseas mansions. (One is in Miami Beach. Another is in Switzerland.)

A bit of ‘indiscriminate missile fire’ would be appropriate, it is certainly how Uncle Sam has waged war since George Washington’s Indian War in the 1790’s.

Yeah, and they have the nerve to call anyone opposed to Putin’s invasion warmongers, while they cheer every time a rocket hits a Ukrainian city.
I look at this in terms of Governments and not people.
I despise our Democrat run government, but it is all we have. I’m sure Russians, Chinese, Indians, Ukrainians,
et al all feel the same towards their governments.
Until someone stands up and starts shooting, we will get the status Quo.
Ukrainians are shooting back at Russians, on Ukrainian territory. Russians are shooting at Ukrainians on Ukranian territory. Seems simple to me who has the moral high ground. Even if both governments are made up of crooks.

you should just pay your taxes and make sure this year YOUR vote count and all votes are counted correctly, for once.
