Fears were raised today that Belarus could join the conflict in Ukraine after President Alexander Lukashenko announced he will deploy a 'joint military task force' with Russia on the country's western border.
The dictator said this was in response to what he said was a clear threat to Belarus from Kyiv and its backers in the West, claiming without evidence that that Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine were training Belarusian 'radicals' for terror attacks, after announcing plans to deploy joint troops with Moscow.

'Strikes on the territory of Belarus are not just being discussed in Ukraine today, but are also being planned,' Lukashenko said at a meeting on security, without providing evidence for the assertion.
'Their owners are pushing them to start a war against Belarus to drag us there.'
'We have been preparing for this for decades. If necessary, we will respond,' Lukashenko said, adding that he had spoken to Putin about the situation while at a meeting in St Petersburg.

'My answer was simple: 'Tell the president of Ukraine and the other lunatics: if they touch one metre of our territory then the Crimean Bridge will seem to them like a walk in the park'.'
He also claimed Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine were training Belarusian 'radicals' to carry out terror attacks in his country.
'The training in Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine of Belarusian radical militants for them to carry out sabotage, terrorist attacks and to organise a military mutiny in the country is becoming a direct threat,' Lukashenko said.

Hey, fruitcake, don’t pretend to be logical, doesn’t work
I agree, or at least hope we’re right!
“Ukraine and Poland have been preparing for this and with NATO and USA help, setting up defenses as well as offensive force over the past 6 months. They’re ready.”
****
If Nato gets involved, it may be without Germany, Italy and France.
Thank you very much for clearly articulating Moscow’s position on this territorial issue… We need all viewpoints here on FR and it’s good to hear from the Russian perspective as well with the latest updates. Thank you very much!
Two crocks of crap.
Those your heroes?
How is your statement full of falsehoods at all relevant?
Try reading something other than Russian propaganda.
Not talking about the others.
Poland wants western Ukraine.
I’ll be blunt. I despise the so-called conservatives here who root for the half-pint dictator Putin, I despise the so-called conservatives who cheer Belarus and their pig dictator Lukashenko. I will forget that you ever called yourselves conservatives, and I hope you have pleasant wet dreams about your hero, Putin.
“I would suggest neither side is ready for what this could turn into.”
When they get to experience children running down the streets all blackened and their skin hanging down..then they might relate.
Or watching their kin lying on a bed with their hair falling out and eyes sunken into their skulls.
Maybe then, they will understand.

Hmm, I recall a lot of the pro-Putin club putting up posts saying Russia is not a communist country, Putin is against communism, and things like that. But his friend and ally in Belarus has the support of the communist and socialist political parties.
So how does the fact that Belarus is a communist dictatorship align with all the pro Putin posters saying that Russia is more aligned with conservative values than say, Antifa or the Democrat party?
Seems to me like the communists in Russia are still there, and trying to defeat the free people of Ukraine.
Lukashenko is not smart enough to be a comedian or a television performer. People that are successful in the media are often very smart. Before Donald Trump was President he had a very successful TV show.
Even if that is true at least Ukraine is not invading other countries and Russia is and that is the important.
“How is he any different than Zelensky...”
Isn’t the difference that zelensky’s country was invaded and then he did what you listed?
Thank you.
Anything that kills people is a "serious" weapon. I am sure the family and loved ones of the hapless Russian sitting in a foxhole that gets a little 20 mm fragmentation grenade dropped on him by a drone thinks that was pretty serious. As does everyone that sees civilians getting executed by Russian troops and pushed into a ditch.
The Russians have launched a lot of heavy weapons at civilian targets already, and the Ukrainians are already very familiar with the tragic results.
Why do you fixate on the possibility that Russia might use nuclear weapons? If they do then they can suffer the consequences.
Caving in to the demands of a bully because they have nuclear arms will just cause every tyrant in the world to obtain nuclear weapons so that they can do the same thing.
They can point to, say, the American Revolution or the Civil War as precedents. Or WWI/WWII.
Wars tend to eliminate normal politics and suppress free speech. Some minor costs of war. Wars are bad things.
Good questions.
