"So the reason Putin went into Ukraine was just to acquire more terra firma? Pretty shallow of him. I would have thought it was more substantial than that."- Well first he claimed it was to stop genocide. But there were international observers on the ground monitoring the Minsk accord and that wasn't happening and nobody believed Putin. What Putin is doing to Ukraine looks more like genocide.
- Then he claimed that it was NATO expansion. But there was no way NATO was going to accept Ukraine as long as there was an active territorial dispute going on. And every one on both sides admits Ukraine's admission to NATO was never seriously on the table.
- Then there were claims that Ukraine was developing nuclear weapons after having given them up for Russia recognizing Ukraine's borders. But nobody really believes that either.
- And there were claims that Ukraine was developing Bioweapons, but health labs researching endemic viruses in the area are not bioweapon labs. And again nobody believes it.
You wouldn't do things like bomb civilian infrastructure or flaten entire towns like Mariupol, if you're invading to protect Russian speaking people. It just completely destroys any credibility that claim might have had.
Ukraine has natural resources valued at #4 in the world. The oil and gas reserves found long after Ukraine won their independence is the reason Putin is invading. Those reserves represent competition to Putin's own reserves. But with them he holds even more monopoly power over Europe.
And that's why the West would be absolutely crazy to let Putin take Ukraine.

Are you aware Raytheon’s price is bumping lows for the year and is currently below the price from January?@Gunslingr3 did you notice that the S&P average is down for the year? It's not just Raytheon. Are you a fan of Lloyd Austin and the rest of the Biden gang?

Well I don’t know who the writer is but he is correct saying Zelensky wants to provoke Putin hard enough to force a war with Nato vs. Russia. That is why I detest Zelensky so much.....he’s not at all about bringing about a peaceful solution nor will he be unless his hand is forced by the EU and or Biden admin.
HE got dressed down more than once by the NATO leadership.

Well they want Russia’s resources and control of them. Plus what they’ve already accomplishd in severing ties between the EU and Russia. Then go after the ties with China.....can’t have EU doing business with China.

Not at all, I did not intend that at all, I was pointing out how wars happen. If you poke a bear long enough he might run but don't be surprised if he turns and attacks
instead of doing something productive governments are always going around poking bears,

Am listening to the UN Security Council special meting on the latest events in Ukraine....and yes sounds like the. UN Body is opposing ‘Russia’s annexations’ and “ Russia Aggression” against Ukraine. Although not all nations mention Crimea among the areas of annexation.

Many of the members of the Sec. Council did not vote to condemn Russia; esp the BRICS members, like India, Brazil, China and I think Saudi. Anyone who condemns Russia for the “annexation” is lying due to some very ulterior motives. All those regions voted in a referendum to become part of Russia AGAIN.

do you believe that the Ukrainians are a separate nationality from the Russians, with right to their own country, or are they just ‘Little Russians’ who speak a dialect of Russian and who rightfully should be ‘reunited’ with Mother Russia?
Ukraine has treated their Russian-speaking population miserably. Donetsk City had been shelled for eight years. It was clear Ukraine never intended to honor the 2015 peace treaty they signed with Russia, recognizing the self-governance of Donetsk and Luhansk. It's one thing to ignore a peace treaty, but it's on another level to brag about ignoring the peace treaty you signed. My big question is why did Putin wait so long to finally intervene. Credit the Trump administration for averting war for four years.
To: Dr. Thorne
Even if he’d been at his office, Zelenskyy likely had more than adequate time to get to shelter.

My country right or wrong. Unfortunately it is very VERY wrong.
Great States in history have always bullied their way around the world (Roman Empire, Spanish Empire, British Empire), or else they wouldn't be great states. Or you can be Switzerland.
To: PIF
My goodness, in addition to the racists, we have demented people on here who actually buy the Nazi / Hitler’s narrative and then accuse Zelenskyy, the moderate Jew who ran on and then persisted (naively, I think) in trying to reach some accommodation with Russia, with being a “Nazi”. Certainly the “Allies” pre-WW2 were not blameless, and certainly not defeating Hitler at the first opportunity and then renegotiating with the business factions that backed him was a big mistake. Germany had largely recovered economically and economic carrots held out to preserve that might have defused the rage Hitler had fostered toward his soon to be victims. But, to in any way justify the horrors of Nazi Germany or Imperial Japan requires one to be possessed by a sort of evil themselves...

By comparison, the Kerch Bridge attack was timed to minimized civilian casualties.

I’m not surprised the BRICS group didn’t vote to condemn Russia - those leaders are as tighter than spandex! ...and will remain so.
