As an Arizona resident, I’m in favor of year-round standard time. I seldom sleep past 4 am, so I’d rather not wait around the extra hour for things to get light. Also, in the summer the last thing I want is an extra hour of sun and heat in the evening.

It is a matter for each state, not for the federal government.

I live one mile inside Central Time Zone and walking around in my house my phone will change time. Very annoying.

The date for clocks to be set back is Sunday, November 6th. The House will not even be in session before then and I doubt they would even take up or vote on the Senate Legislation if they were. So, set your clocks back an hour on the 6th or when you go to bed on the 5th of November.

I grew up in NE WI near the UP of Mi border. Dickinson Co and a couple others were on eastern time and we were on central time.

They changed to central time..simply told everyone they were going to do it and did it.

I'm convinced that Daylight Saving Time only exists because so many of our nation's largest cities in the 20th century were situated at the eastern areas of their respective time zones -- think NYC, Boston, Washington, Baltimore and Philadelphia in Eastern Time, Chicago, St. Louis and New Orleans in Central Time, etc.

Sunrise in Boston this morning was at 6:50AM. The sun rose in Fort Wayne, Indiana almost a full hour later -- at 7:46. When you get to areas like western Ohio and eastern Indiana, you never hear all those concerns about the sun setting too early during Standard Time. Instead, their bigger issue is having kids wait for school buses in the dark early in the morning.

“The Sunshine Protection Act for Late Risers”. This actually destroys sunshine for early risers. Continues the general trend of everything getting later and later in society.

But in the end, it is such a stupid name because obviously sunshine is fixed regardless of human clock time. Stupid times for an increasingly stupid society.

My wife works in a police/fire/EMS office. All of the dispatchers are women. Three of them are young, married women. Three of them got pregnant at precisely the same time and will be due in January. My wife showed me the work schedule for January. 7 AM to 7 PM Sun/Mon/Tue, 7 AM to 1 PM Wed. Off Thu/Fri/Sat. She will be going to work in the dark and leaving work in the dark. They get 90 days maternity leave. It is assumed they will return to work. If they don't, the process of recruiting/training/certification runs 15 weeks per employee on average.

In my area of Idaho, the earliest sunset (even on standard time) comes at 4:55 PM. Sunrise would happen after 9 AM on DST/8 AM standard. DST is great in the Summer. Latest sunset occurs at 9:13 DST. I work in my basement to keep all of the high powered computers cool, so seeing sunlight happens when I check for mail. Lately, a little more taking my Dachshund puppy out to the yard for a potty break and run.

You wouldn’t do such things in the wintertime when the sun is down before 5 pm.

Why not?

In the dead of winter, nobody cares that it's dark at 5 o'clock. It's too cold to do anything outside anyhow.

And it's THIS kind of provincial thinking that got us this stupid law in the 1st place. Not true for >50% of US population.

Here in Alabama, we look forward to the winter, so we CAN do things outside that aren't pleasant in the blazing hot spring/summer/fall. I do most of my building and maintenance on my farm in the winter.

The reasons for time zones was because of the Rail road time schedules back in the day.

As for keeping on the same time year round? I like it.

Its another scam brought to you by...you guessed it!

A Democrat.

Legislative acts do not alter the actual number of hours of daylight. Ever. Anywhere.

Thank you.

What other countries observe DST? (asking legitimately)

I know Iraq did away with it in 2008. They’re permanently on Standard Time.

They used to spring forward every April 1 and fall back every October 1.

I’m not sure which other countries still switch back and forth.

Yeah, I know folks like that (the line is about 45 min E of me). I know a pediatrician who gets up on Central Time, and arrives at work on Eastern Time. VERY annoying.

Couldn't they change the school starting time as needed?

In many parts of the country , it is uncomfortably cold outside at that time of year, and most people don’t want to take a walk in the park. If you want to say some people will bundle up and take that walk in the park and take the kids to play in the park, have at it.

Most golf courses in most of the country do not have stadium style lighting to play night golf. And again, it’s cold outside in most of the country at that time of year. If you want to say that some hardy souls will go play golf in the dark and cold, again, have at it. Go for it.

Just fall back 5 hours early every the morning and then spring forward 5 hours every evening. You’ll have plenty of daylight.
