I suggested people get their iodine tablets last week. It might be too late now.

ST. PETERSBURG. October 10. /TASS/. Russia will respond toughly, if the Kiev regime continues attempts to carry out terror attacks on Russian territory, President of Russia Vladimir Putin said on Monday.

“If attempts continue to carry out terror attacks on our territory, Russia’s responses will be tough and by their scope correspond to the level of threats created for the Russian Federation,” the head of state said at a meeting with members of Russia’s Security Council.

“No one must have any doubts about that,” Putin stressed.

By its acts, the Kiev regime has put itself on a par with international terrorist organizations and, therefore, these crimes simply cannot be left unanswered, the Russian leader said.

As Putin said, “this morning, at the suggestion of the Defense Ministry and under a plan of the Russian General Staff, a massive strike by Russia’s long-range air-, sea- and ground-based precision weapons was delivered against Ukrainian energy, military command and communications facilities.”

The president instructed the defense minister “to report on the results.”

Russian Security Council meeting

The Russian Security Council meeting was attended by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Speakers of both houses of parliament Valentina Matviyenko and Vyacheslav Volodin, Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev, Presidential Administration Head Anton Vaino, Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev, Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu, Federal Security Service Director Alexander Bortnikov, Foreign Intelligence Service Director Sergey Naryshkin and Special Russian Presidential Representative for Environmental Protection, Ecology and Transport Sergey Ivanov.

After the president’s speech, the meeting continued its work behind closed doors.

Ukraine targets infrastructure.

Russia indiscriminately targets civilians.

Russia calls the bridge attack "terrorism".

Tells you all you need to know.

It’s war. Killing people and breaking things is pretty much the textbook definition of it.

It’s war. It’s to be expected. Expect another attack on the bridge until it is cut. It took half a dozen missile strikes on the Kherson bridge to finally cut it and it was a much easier target.

Modern bridges are tougher than most people would think.

Both sides know how important this bridge is.

Once it’s finally cut, assuming they succeed in finishing the job, the next problem is cutting the land routes supplying the south. That’s a much tougher nut to crack.

Prediction:

Just before the midterms, President Rutabaga waves his diaper and sez: “Look, look, we have peace in our time! I has conjured up a treaty between Putin and Zelensky!”

Regardless of who you believe is the villain here, I beginning to believe this is about regime change in Russia.

This goes way back to when we helped with getting Volodymyr Zelenskyy where he is now. Even if Putin pulled back all his forces back, I’m afraid the plan has been set into motion and there is not turning back now. Like many before him in various countries, Putin has to go.

Putin cannot lose this war and remain in power. So I expect things to escalate sharply in the near term. If Ukraine withstands this escalation, the regime will collapse. But they have to get through the near term escalation to get through to the other side. I think they’ll do it.

I don’t expect a new northern front to be effective if it happens at all. It’s main importance is as a threat to keep Ukrainian forces tied down in the north and away from the south and east.

Russia, Having 'Run Out Of Missiles', Launches Barrage On Ukraine

Back in March I had warned that Lies Do Not Win Wars. Here is another practical example.

After allegedly having 'run out of missiles' and, more importantly, patience, the leadership of the Russian Federation decided to de-electrify Ukrainian cities with a 'barrage of missile strikes'.

But first came the propaganda blubber:

Then a warning:

'We Haven't Started Yet,' Putin Says in Hawkish Speech on Ukraine Invasion - Haaretz - Jul 7, 2022

President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that Russia had barely got started in Ukraine and dared the West to try to defeat it on the battlefield, while insisting that Moscow was still open to the idea of peace talks.

...

"Today we hear that they want to defeat us on the battlefield. What can you say, let them try," he said. "We have heard many times that the West wants to fight us to the last Ukrainian. This is a tragedy for the Ukrainian people, but it seems that everything is heading towards this."

... "Everyone should know that, by and large, we haven't started anything yet in earnest," he added. "At the same time, we don't reject peace talks. But those who reject them should know that the further it goes, the harder it will be for them to negotiate with us."

Consequences: Russia Unleashes Biggest Barrage of Strikes on Ukraine Since Invasion - WSJ - Oct 10, 2022

Cities throughout Ukraine, including Kyiv, are bombarded after Putin slams Ukraine over Crimea bridge blast

KYIV, Ukraine—Russia carried out waves of strikes on several Ukrainian cities including the capital in the broadest and most intense onslaught since the start of the invasion, after President Vladimir Putin accused Ukraine of a “terrorist attack” on a critical bridge connecting Russia’s mainland to the occupied Crimean Peninsula.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia had carried out dozens of strikes using missiles as well as Iranian-made drones to target civilian and power infrastructure. “They want panic and chaos,” he said. “They want to destroy our energy system.”

Ukraine "under missile attack" as explosions rock Kyiv and other cities - CBSNews - Oct 10, 2022

Kyrylo Tymoshenko, deputy head of the president's office, said on social media Monday that, "Ukraine is under missile attack. There is information about strikes in many cities of our country."

General Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, said on Twitter that Russia had launched 75 missiles at Ukraine but that "41 of them were neutralized by our air defence."

Zelenskyy later emerged onto a street in Kyiv to record a selfie video with a message to his people and the world, denouncing Russia for the barrage of missiles which he said had targeted Ukraine's energy infrastructure, and its civilians.

Kiev, Lviv, Karkov, Dnipropetrovsk, Krivoy Rog all report damage to their electricity infrastructure.
