Vanderbilt to review gender-affirming surgeries for minors

Officials at Vanderbilt University Medical Center announced Friday that they are pausing gender-affirming surgeries for minors in order to review their practices.

The news, delivered in a letter sent to a lawmaker who has demanded an end to the surgeries, was publicly released Friday afternoon. It comes amid mounting political pressure from Tennessee's Republican leaders—many of whom are running for reelection—who called for an investigation into the private nonprofit hospital after videos surfaced on social media last month of a doctor touting that gender-affirming procedures are "huge money makers." Another video showed a staffer saying anyone with a religious objection should quit.

None of the politicians could point to a specific law that the hospital had violated, and no agency to date has committed to an investigation. Republican Gov. Bill Lee's office said they had passed their concerns to the Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti, but his office has not commented on whether he is looking into the Nashville-based hospital.

"We are pausing gender affirmation surgeries on patients under age 18 while we complete this review, which may take several months," wrote C. Wright Pinson, VUMC's deputy CEO and chief health system officer.

The GOP-dominated Legislature is scheduled to reconvene in January, and many lawmakers have vowed to introduce legislation further limit gender-affirming treatments. If successful, it's unclear if VUMC would be allowed to resume gender-affirming surgeries for minors, regardless of their internal review.

I was really bored one day, and I worked out a structure for college football.

Basically the two conferences, each with 5 divisions of 6-7 teams each, trying to keep the traditional divisions intact.
Top two teams in each division make the playoffs, so that’s basically 20 teams, with Division winners getting a First Round Bye.

Each division has a corresponding “subdivision” of teams that are currently in the non-Power 5 conferences, also consisting of 6-7 teams, with one team from the Subdivision playing in the main division. If the Subdivision team actually makes the conference playoffs, they would automatically stay up the following season, otherwise they would have to play against the Subdivision winner to stay up. So it’s kind of a Pro/Reg system.

What’s cool is, now, instead of meaningless bowl games throughout the month of December, you’ll have the Subdivision playoff games to determine who gets “promoted” to the main division, and it gives the lesser Division I programs a lot of exposure.

I expect the PAC-10, now PAC-12 is going going to have a huge revival thanks to new TV deals, some of the best coaching, huge NIL deals for players, great weather in most locations, and the hottest coeds. But I will say the Coeds at Mississippi can’t be beat.

Maybe they should have conducted the review before they did this mutilation surgery on children.

OU is thankful for Vanderbilt, because when they move to the SEC, there’s one team they can beat.

Remember the stink the left made about gay “conversion therapy”?

At least it didn’t chemically napalm, chop and slit bodies into geldings.

Even outlawed it.

Well once the election is over on November 8th and Governor Bill Lee the Republican who said there should be some of probe over this safely gets re-elected, I suspect the surgeries will resume. Any ending of these surgeries will not happen without massive public pressure including obviously the legislature controlled by the GOP in Tennessee and so on.

Although the people of TN are deep red, the governor and legislature are solid RINO.

“Gender affirming” would be to not touch them at all.

Are you suggesting that medical science at Vanderbilt University is not changing the X-Y chromosome of the 30 - 40 trillion cells in the human body? </sarcasm>
