A forensic pathologist and Head of KNUST School of Medicine and Dentistry, Dr. Paul Ossei Sampene is concerned about the recorded cases of newborn babies with deformities in mining communities.
Speaking to GHOne News, the pathologist observed that illegal mining activities which continue to contaminate food crops and river bodies have far-reaching consequences on human health, which is partly why the country’s health facilities are overwhelmed by strange diseases and defects in births.
He stressed the heavy concentration of metallic substances found in river bodies is worrying.
“We need to appreciate the fact that cumulatively if these patients get even 0.005% of heavy metal, and assuming the person stays there all his life you can imagine the sort of concentration that you can get in a year or in a month, and that is what we should consider. When you live there permanently, that is your place of abode and consume whatever is produced there, you drink the water there and eat the food there, cumulatively it can affect your life. And we need to take action. If care is not taken in the near future we need to import food.”
Irresponsible small-scale mining activities across mining communities in Ghana continue to have adverse impacts on lands and water resources and threaten human survival in mining areas.
Newborn babies with deformities, and kidney failure, among others, are on the rise as a result of the intake of polluted water and consumption of food crops in mining areas, the pathologist observed.
“Per my particular examinations of people that have passed on at certain areas seem to be telling me that there is a lot of heavy metal pollution in our food chain which has found its way into the body of the human.
“The gastrointestinal tract which we call GIT per our medical term is one of the things that is affected when you consume these heavy metals.
“I did one work by using placenta and looking at it I think is alarming. Even though I haven’t been able to do more of these things nationwide, but I think that if we allow it to continue, we will be in a position where in the near future we’ll get a lot of babies with deformities.
“Some of them fortunately the deformities are not compatible with life and so some of them just die immediately after birth. But if you’re not careful and you survive it, you might have somebody with an internal organ deformity.”
There are several YouTube videos about the children born with birth defects in the Congo in villages where Cobalt is mined.
The open pit mines are run by the Chinese.
There are also hundreds of people that work in wildcat mines.
Cleft pallets and missing/deformed limbs are the major birth defects being reported.

The news story does not quantify the concentration of “heavy metals” in the bloodstream or tissues of people living in the area, and does not state how far above the norm the heavy metal concentrations are. Nor does it even identify the heavy metals that are causing the problems. Nor does it quantify the birth defects experienced by the area peoples. All in all this is just a single persons opinion with little evidence to back it up except his own opinion. Not trying to be super critical, but this story is alarmist in nature with no concrete evidence to back it up. Maybe the UN can do a study? Or Ghana can do a study. Evidence is needed.

Dr. Paul Poku Sampene Ossei has many opinions it seems. Here he warns about the dangers of sexual intercourse and masturbation:

The doctor’s observations in the course of his work are attention worthy. It’s nothing special for someone in a forum to jump up gleefully and demand more “evidence” as if they are some paragon of critical thinking and bastion against criticism of China. But it would be quite special if they write to Chinese-corrupted Ghana and UN officials to suggest they fund a full-blown study on the health impacts of rogue Chinese mining. Post the letter here for the rest of our amusement once it is written.
That’s quite a conservative and helpful stance to take, especially in the context of youths abusing aphrodisiacs. It may very well be that it’s important for them to heed the doctor’s warning.
The Chineses are taking over Africa from what I’ve read. They even have a Wumart which is like our Walmarts but sells bulk knock off items. They are also building truck plants that ignore environmental emissions rules, building new roads and such. They are also sending the locals to China for education/indoctrination and training. I’m not sure in the long run how this will end. The Chineses are racists and look down on the Africans while throwing money at their country and building it up.
Chinese need these lands to live in, colonize, farm, and draw resources from.
Chinese also plan to use Africans in their military.
Whatever is causing deformed babies, it’s tragic.

I reread what I wrote, and there was nothing gleeful in what I said—just reasonable points. You are overstating your case quite a bit.
I believe resources are the primary reason for Red China colonizing Africa, and Africans accept it because since the whites left or were chased out, none of the infrastructure was maintained and the new countries quickly devolved into what they were when whites first arrived (but with much larger populations due to Western medicine).
But you probably read Financial Times which talks only of resource extraction. Truth is, while China is certainly greedy for those resources, it needs land to move to and farm even more. There is a lot of real estate in China, but not so much is fertile and yet unpolluted. That's why whenever I watch Bukedde TV news from Uganda I see chinese faces in news reports involving even the remotest villages.
Africans "accept" what they are forced to accept. Now if whites had put up all this infrastructure as you claim, then why would Africans kick out whites just to "accept" chinese for infrastructure? The story you present doesn't make sense.
But I know the facts. Chinese are moving in to Africa. They are working on making it a Chinese continent. It is their frontier. Africans are their "injuns".
