And any talk of a negotiated peace settlement really makes them mad. They get even nastier than they usually are.

Not so short answer - The military-industrial complex needs to grow the biz, sell more planes, tanks bombs, bullets, rockets and beans to the Pentagon, so they contribute to the reelection efforts of the neocon warmongers in both parties whom they count on to do things like, say, send $67 billion dollars of aid to the Nazi-loving Zelensky. And round and round we go. Makes that little $3 billion recently sent to the Taliban look like chump change, on top of the billions and blood already spent in that 3rd world garbage dump since 2001.
