Mayor LaToya Cantrell to repay $30k in city money spent on first-class flights .

She had justified it by saying flying economy was 'unsafe' for black women ..

City policy requires her to find cheapest fare or reimburse the expenses .

Cantrell also admitted living rent-free in the apartment located in the city's Upper Pontalba building on Jackson Square .

...

The city's Metropolitan Crime Commission sent a report to the city council Thursday asking for an investigation into Cantrell's use of the apartment .

...

LaToya Cantrell, the controversial Democrat mayor of New Orleans, has said she will repay the city for $30,000 she claimed in city cash for first class flights.

The mayor was forced into the U-turn after a city attorney was brought in who determined that Cantrell, as a city employee, was obliged by policy to seek the cheapest fares or reimburse the city for deluxe expenses.

New Orleans' chief administrative officer Gilbert Montano indicated that he would enforce the policy, prompting Mayor Cantrell to say she would reimburse the city.

'Based on the policy review, however, I will have to reimburse,' she said. 'So I'm moving forward to do that,' without specifying when she would do so.

Cantrell had previously caused outrage when she spent taxpayer money on first class air travel to France and Switzerland and excused it by saying economy class was 'unsafe' for black women...

The under fire mayor is already in hot water after admitting to living in a city-owned apartment in the city's French Quarter rent free.

At first she repeatedly refused to repay the cost of a luxury American Airlines flight from Washington Dulles Airport to Switzerland for herself in July, despite a city ban on luxury air travel.

Lord only knows what that cost and how much the upkeep costs.

And she moved into it like she owns it.

She needs to pay back rent and/or be taxed on it.

I'm actually flying to San Diego tomorrow out of JFK.

I'll be sitting in the "not safe for black women" section.

Don’t need to ask what race she is. “ LaToya” Yep.

Why should she be expected to pay rent for her residence? The article stated the apartment she lives in is a government provided apartment. If not for a mayor, then who is it provided for? Do the mayors of NYC pay to live in Gracie Mansion?

She is term limited, so her position as mayor is safe.

Wonder what the chances are she declares the rent-free apartment as income on her 1040 next year?

It was never used as a Mayoral crash-pad until this lady decided to use it as such.

It was used for housing guests who come to New Orleans.

And very few people pushed back on the notion that flying coach is dangerous for black females.
