All of the elderly Europeans who are going to freeze to death this winter because there isn’t enough heating fuel will die happy knowing that their next of kin doesn’t have to keep multiple charging cables in their backpacks as they flee to Southern European hostels.

There is more than enough heating fuel for households.

Poland, France, Italy etc - all except Germany and Bulgaria - are off Russian gas.

Germany got 40% before Feb and now about 10% from Russia - and is going to shift their storage for households and away from industry.

So Germany industry will have higher costs or will stop, but no one is going to freeze

here's Germany's energy mix

So Natural gas accounts for 15.3% of Germany's energy usage

and if you look at December 2021 the sources of NG by country was

Note that it was in December, now it is lower

But even if you assume Russia's share was the same - so 1/3rd of 15.3% i.e. 5.1% of Germany's energy source is from Russia

The Germany economy will have higher energy costs, but no, no one is going to freeze

LOL!

This kind of comment is why FR is still a great read.

I don’t want the Euroboobs to freeze to death but I must admit the thought of them suffering a bit doesn’t exactly break my heart. It feels like karmic payback for the way they treated my president, Donald J. Trump.
