Italy’s likely next Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has vowed to fight against speculators she claims are distorting the energy markets and lower the costs of energy for Italians while also promoting those who create wealth in the country.
The firebrand leader of the national-conservative Brothers of Italy (FdI) stated that energy costs for Italians remain a major priority for her likely incoming government.
“The priority will be the cost of energy, the issue is not how to compensate for speculation but how to stop it, we cannot continue to give billions to speculators,” Meloni told a crowd of the National Confederation of Direct Farmers (Coldiretti), Italy’s largest association representing agriculture, over the weekend, Il Giornale reports.
“You know that in these days I have thinned out my presence to study the most urgent dossiers, in case we are called to form the new government,” Meloni told the crowd and added, “But I decided to come here to you who represent Italian excellence and “Made in Italy’.”

It's called free market --- that is except for the gubment artificially suppressing supply. Don't fuss about the demand in the free market -- allow the free market to supply energy.
Does that headline really say she’s fighting against lower costs for Italians?
I wish her all the strength in the world because the left is going to come after her with everything they got.
They’ve already started.
The problem is that some speculation w/o guardrails causes normal markets to not be free markets. Kinda like short selling by the rockefellers without the uptick rule.
Free market companies and commodity traders are natural speculators and risk-takers. That's what creates markets and supplies the products consumers need at prices they can afford.
Not a very smart start, but perhaps the press is confusing her position.
I don’t recall the pope sending her his message of congratulations. I doubt he will. In fact I expect him to work with the Italian democrat party to get rid of her, like he did with Salvini. (My opinion).
The left limiting energy supply does way more to inflate prices than “speculation”.
When it comes down to it, it's generally always the fault of government, what they do, or don't do.
Prayers up for her.
I like this lady
Sort of MAKE ITALY GREAT AGAIN imagine that…a country’s leader putting their country first…c’mon man…
I like Meloni. Disappointed in her Bidenesque statement about energy speculators as the cause. I hope she is smart enough not to believe her own rhetorical BS and knows to go after the real problem when it comes to energy markets
Perhaps something was lost in translation.
I want to be a low-cost Italian. Where do I apply?
Good luck lady. Speculation is the hallmark of markets more than probably any other time in history. The idea of efficient markets is pure bunk. She may as well try to tell the sun when it should set.
