Any time I read about some government creating a fund to help (fill in the blanks) I immediately think SLUSH FUND.
There will be so many relatives and friends of the politicians on the payroll it is doubtful if any money ever gets to the individuals they claim to be helping.
The best part is that no one expects anything to change and there will never be an audit of the books to see where the money went.
Just one more scheme to transfer public money to someone’s pocket with 10% going to the the big guy (who ever the big guy is in this story).
"Generational wealth" is the result of earning it followed by good decision-making.
Giving wealth to people who haven't earned it and don't know what to do with it will result in disaster. Again. And again. And again. Nothing new, here.
A family member worked for Habitat for several years until she couldn’t take it anymore.
The people who had these homes had often been in public housing before that, and they simply didn’t understated the concept of paying your mortgage on time (or at all), being responsible for doing your own repairs and maintenance, even basic cleaning.
They also wouldn’t learn: they wouldn’t go to the free budgeting classes offered by a local organization, they wouldn’t take the free Home Depot class on home repairs for first time homeowners, etc.
This was certainly not true of all of the homeowners, but unfortunately it was true of way too many and they ended up losing their homes.
You have to do a lot of work with people to prepare them for owning a home, and it doesn’t seem that any of these city programs really acknowledge this.
Good post—and it suggests possible ways to help make things better.
Passing those courses (if they are not “automatic pass” but have high standards) before allowing someone in a Habitat for Humanity home would have been a good start.
I have never been a fan of Habitat for Humanity, even if I understand the desire to help people that many of the participants had. I just have a problem with the premise that it is a right of everyone to own a home.
It isn’t.
It is a right to be able to earn and save enough money to buy a home, but not everyone can or should own a home. The Left has done everything in its power to destroy affordable housing with Section 8 regulations and the demonization of Landlords. Only a fool would be a landlord now, especially seeing what happened in the COVID world.
I know part of my disdain stems from my deep dislike of Jimmy Carter, root and branch, which shouldn’t affect my views on that, but it does.
Whites are the ATM machines for DC's blacks. They won't take care of these homes and they will become tumble down slums, the plumbing fittings being sold to finance drug purchases, etc. I've seen it over and over again in NYC.
They don't thank them at all. They believe "the rich," i.e. any given taxpayer - paying for everything for them is their right, as reparations and because of "past discrimination."
They have been told repeatedly by the schools, media and government that they are poor because the evil rich took everything from them - not their own poor financial and school habits.
$500 will help buy a couple of weeks of groceries for a family-—WILL NOT HELP TO TO BUY A HOME.
THIS is a monetary scam.
Unless you take the Bolshevik approach and just shoot the rich.
Hillary recalls white water days. $$$$$$$$$$$$$
“$10,000,000 / 20,000 = $500 per family in some kind of assistance.”
You almost got it...The mayors ‘friends’ will get the contracts for this distribution program at a cost of about 9.9m.
Nothing says responsible home ownership like someone else paying your down payment, keeping you from being evicted if you don’t pay the mortgage and getting free repairs.
“The “homeowner” can’t afford home maintenance and/or the mortgage payments—and eventually they abandon the property.”
You obviously didn’t read the article.
The program will pay for repairs and keep you from being evicted if you don’t pay the mortgage.
This will go a long ways in making blacks more responsible and financially independent.
“Unconstitutional”
What’s a constitution?
“The program will pay for repairs and keep you from being evicted if you don’t pay the mortgage.”
That will work for a few years and then you know what will happen next....nothing lasts forever....new administration comes to town....not their program....they have new scams....same as it always was....
90% of home repairs is getting your BUTT off the couch and going out and doing it. All home repairs can be learned by watching YouTube videos.
Even something like painting your house is not that expensive. You need a ladder or two, a scraper, a sander, some sand paper and a paint brush. I have been painting the three different houses I have owned for 32 years. One section at a time.
The problem is that people are LAZY.
How is this even legal? If a city were to develop a special fund to help whites buy homes, it would be struck down by a court instantly.
Does a white person have to apply for funding and be turned down to have ‘standing’ to start a lawsuit?
...they forgot to add “...by stealing it through force of government from white people.”
Another Black example of Haiti in D.C.
