Former US President Donald Trump sued CNN for defamation on Monday, seeking $475 million in punitive damages and claiming that the network had carried out a "campaign of libel and slander" against him, Reuters reported.
Trump claims in his lawsuit, filed in US District Court in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, that the network had used its influence as a leading news organization to defeat him politically.
He further says in the lawsuit that CNN used such defamatory labels against him as "racist," "Russian lackey," "insurrectionist" and "Hitler."
CNN declined to comment on the case.

As a celebrity he’ll have to prove “actual malice”.
I don’t see a problem.
Standards of proof in court are not necessarily the same as common sense. But Trump has lawyers. I’m sure he got an earful from them anyway, and he’s going ahead, which makes me hopeful that he will win.
Hope PDJT calls shifty schiif-for-brains and Lizard Cheney as witnesses. A showing of Malice will be a slam dunk then.
Popcorn!
Go President Trump!!!
I thought that was the reason for CNN’s existence - slander
The best thing for this case is the continual pattern of conduct from the primaries through the general through the Presidency and beyond.
Lie after lie after lie after lie. Demonstrable lies.
However, outside of some clickbait stories and lots of kerfluffle I have little hope this will move forward.
The discovery alone for internal communications from Zucker to his merry minions would be worth it.
Good!! Sue their asses into oblivion
As Boris Epshteyn, a Trump lawyer just reported on WarRoom, Trump had sent CNN a warning letter a few months ago.
Several of CNN’s personalities have neither ceased nor desisted. There are grounds for malice.
A law professor told me in the 1980s that the higher-ranked a public official was, the greater the leeway in what you could say about him. For a president, at least while he was in office, you could say anything and it wouldn't be defamation.
That’s what I want to see;D
But first amendment litigation is a huge specialty, and all the really great lawyers probably work for media outlets, so Trump will have to make do with the leftovers. With all due respect to Rudy, this is not his field.
The discovery in this case should be epic.
Perhaps, Trump hopes to force CNN to sell a controlling interest to him and his allies?
He is no longer in office.
CNN is not a ‘leading news organization’
Hohoho! He could probably do a hostile takeover on Wall Street without feeling any pain. But I don’t think it’s publicly traded anymore, and Zucker is a nut case. So they’d have to execute a judgment against his assets.
NAIL them.
It’s not a news organization.
I don’t see that as a problem, either. Plenty of malice from these lying, fraud news/arm of DNC creeps.
