China Warns U.S. of Grave Consequences if Ukraine Joins NATO

In a Sunday editorial in the state-owned Global Times, Beijing warned that allowing the country into the alliance—as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has requested—would lead to an inevitable escalation in the conflict, prompting Russian President Vladimir Putin's threats to use nuclear arms against the West.

While unlikely—U.S. national security adviser Jake Sullivan stated in a White House press briefing last week that NATO should delay talks on allowing the country into the alliance—the newspaper warned "all European countries will tremble under the shadow of a possible nuclear war" should it take place, and called for the Western alliance to withdraw from its longstanding involvement in Eastern Europe.

"In that case, there will be no security for anyone, not for Ukraine, and not for the world," the newspaper wrote. "Instead of pursuing resolutions to end the conflict, Washington has, over and over again, displayed that the US is charging toward the other direction—fanning the flames of war."

Is this one of those “Please don’t throw me in the briar patch” things?

Time will tell. Eastern Europe is eternally fubar. So whatever happens, sh!t will hit fans somewhere, and it’s impossible to enjoy a ball game when that happens.

Ukraine in NATO would help stabilize Europe and bring peace by removing a lynchpin that Russia needs to rebuild the evil empire.

Especially with that awesome leader anointed during obamas rule. What we really need to to replace Putin with whomever Obama has selected too. It will be amaaazing when they control all the natural resources in Russia. We will be green in a wink.
Putin or the WEF and co.

True. Provided that Russia does not go nuclear and destroy Europe. On the other hand, declining to admit Ukraine into NATO because Putin has buffaloed you into knuckling with nuclear threats guarantees that threats of nuclear retaliation will become his tool of choice, especially since his military isn’t up to snuff. So what to do? Damned if you do, or damned if you don’t. I think that Eastern European countries ought to form their own alliance against Russian aggression, one not as threatening as NATO to paranoid Russian mentality. But one with some military might behind it.

Ukraine has had 5 leaders since Putin occupied the Kremlin. Zelensky and Ukraine or wishes of the Chinese Communist Party should not be a tough choice for American conservatives.

I don’t think they can thread that needle.

Russia is and will be paranoid. It’s in their blood.

The Eastern Europeans (EE) should go with the strongest alliance they can because it doesn’t matter—Russia will be mad anyways—the stronger the EEs are the more likely they’ll not be attacked or prevail if they are.

Maybe NATO should let Taiwan in too.

“Maybe NATO should let Taiwan in too.”

NATO simply by existing defeated the USSR. To defeat China we do need a similar alliance. Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Australia and our other friends in the region should be more organized.

With the just occurring NK missile flying nearby Japan, it was only a matter of time that the Far East would make some headlines, linking Europe/Ukraine with Asia/Taiwan. I’m expecting more of this...

Ukraine should not be admitted to NATO *AT THIS TIME*. For the simple reason it does not currently qualify for membership. Once that changes Membership should be extended.

Russia seems to be suffering from an inferiority complex, as the simple fact that no member of NATO was compelled by the US to join. Russia seems to be harboring a load of butt hurt that it’s Eastern European allies of the Warsaw pact could not leave fast enough once their ability to compel membership in the alliance ended. Putin also seems to be having issues cajoling support from Russia’s current allies.

Its “allies” and Republics in Europe were overrun by the red horde as the German front collapsed, and by the end of the war, England had neither the manpower nor the desire to forcibly wrest control from Stalin, and the US naively trusted him to keep his word and allow free democratic referendums about each country’s ultimate fate. It was Churchill they mistrusted, so did not back him up even diplomatically. But life as a Soviet Republic was all rainbows and unicorns, of course (not!) so unsurprisingly, they all wanted shut of Russia when the Soviet Union finally collapsed under its idiotic system. Especially Ukraine, though also especially Latvia, Lithuania, what was left of Poland, etc.
