The Orange Southwest Supervisory District’s website was hacked Saturday and inundated with “hate speech, symbols, and photographs targeting transgender invidividuals,” superintendent Layne Millington wrote community members on Saturday.
The incident prompted district leaders to disable its website and social media accounts, Millington wrote, and to refer the matter to local and federal law enforcement. “While the speech has been disgusting and disturbing, it has not been threatening,” he wrote.
According to Millington, the hacking appears related to a recent incident involving the Randolph Union Middle/High School girls’ volleyball team.
District officials have declined to elaborate, citing federal privacy laws. But in a separate email to the community Friday, Millington wrote, “There was an incident involving the girls’ volleyball team that is currently being investigated, that investigation is ongoing at this time.”
WCAX reported last week that the incident involved a transgender student on the team. The TV station’s story, which focused on a teammate critical of the transgender student, was picked up over the weekend by Fox News, the Daily Signal, the New York Post and others. (VTDigger is not linking to those stories because they include transphobic rhetoric and do not appear to present a full picture of what occurred.)
In his Saturday email, Millington criticized the news media for trying to “make it look like the district refuses to comment for some nefarious reason when they know the law prevents us from doing so.” A result of officials’ inability to correct the record, he wrote, is that “folks present partial, false, or incorrect information.”
“The consequences of such a system … are sadly clear, misinformed people moved to action who do things like vandalize our website with hate speech,” he wrote.
District officials were scheduled to meet Sunday afternoon to discuss how best to communicate with community members while the website and social media accounts are disabled. “We will further assess with law enforcement what we learn over the next 24-hours and use it to create a response plan to ensure our students and schools continue to be safe and supportive,” Millington wrote.
He told VTDigger on Sunday via email that the district had invested in an email communications system “that we will use to ensure families continue to receive all the communications and updates they normally would through the website and school social media accounts.”
The Randolph Union Middle/High School serves 381 students in the towns of Randolph, Braintree and Brookfield, according to 2022 enrollment data from the Vermont Agency of Education’s website.

Don't parents teach "sticks and stones" any more? My God, bring the FEDS in for some childish name-calling? This nation is absolutely insane and so far off the rails we'll never get back on track.
I'd be rotting in federal prison to this day if the feds had been pursuing name-calling back in 1958.
So posting on their open websites is considered “ hacking “ ?
Pfft.
Rape of the English language is one of the progpervs favorite pastime.
Btw, we aren’t afraid of diddly, much less transwuteva, we are vehemently against genital mutilation of children .
I smell heretosexualPhobia.
I thought phobias were bad.
More progperv one way streets.
This story could get legs.
Sooner or later, there’ll be a “shot heard round the world” incident, like the Kyle Rittenhouse story, but on the subject of transgenderism and girls’ sports.
The perfect cover to change a few grades.
And just like that, the school administration and the trans student are now the victims. Woke aggression and deception coming to small communities across America.
Get a better website.
What is a “transphobic hack?” I just can’t keep up with all of the invented terms that homosexuals and pedophiles us to disguise what they do.
I heard someone posted a picture of Chuck Norris. The alphabet folk were ‘triggered’.
SSSSSH.!! I heard O'Biden signed a presidential decree doing away with the statute of limitations...
When one sees “phobe” in any form in an article, one can assume that the author does not know the definition of the word, is probably a journalism major, and most definitely struggles to reach 100 on the IQ chart.
There is no such thing as transgender, so there is no such thing as transphobic. The whole school administration needs to be replaced.
“... “hate speech, symbols, and photographs targeting transgender invidividuals,”
This crap has got to stop.
but only for enemies of the deep state and the Democrat/tyranny party
I agree and I do not like this “brave new world”. It sucks! I want our nice normal country back.
“I want our nice normal country back.”
Me, too. Unfortunately, when countries get to the tranny point, history shows they are doomed to extinction. I don’t think any country has ever returned from this point. Our demise has been rapid, less than 50 years.
They're cry-bullies. They cry victim, but in reality, they're the bullies.
