Jesse Latta, the pastor of Victory Baptist Church and president of the school, told WJAX in a statement that the assignment “was taken out of an online teacher resource and has been used in many schools.”
“When a parent contacted our teacher with a complaint, our teacher immediately sent out correspondence to all parents in the class to assure them that there were no bad intentions with this assignment and to clarify the guidelines,” Latta wrote. “No additional concerns were presented to the teacher.
“While the assignment was completely innocent, out of an abundance of caution and for there to be no misunderstandings, our administration has removed this particular assignment for any future use. We value our children and their safety is our top priority. We will continue to serve the children and families in which the Lord has graciously allowed us to have a part in their lives.”
Latta did not explain the “administrative withdrawal” of the student.
That just seems inappropriate
“Administratively withdrawn.”
I take it that’s Newspeak for “expelled.”
The school withdrew the offending assignment after the fact……
…why did they withdraw the student
Is it OK to ask teacher to bring you a photo of her bathing?
Extremists.
I’d have no problem with it. I would just angle the camera below and outside the top of the tub so that you only see the kids head, maybe fingers holding the book, and the book.
I would assume that they don’t want a nude picture of a kid since that would be illegal in this sort of context.
And believe me, I am not the type of person who is going to allow sexual exploitation of children to go unstopped. I’ve told my wife as we have put our kids into schools that if that situation arises she should expect to see me in prison because my reaction to it is going to be extreme.
People really need to get a grip.
If that’s not a red flag, nothing is.
My guess is a lot was left out by both sides in this story.
Someone wrote that request for kid porn. Name please. Then address please. Let the parents take care of the rest. With maximum effect on the perp, hopefully. Good police will look the other way and let nature take its course. Not even close to kidding.
My understanding of schools these days leads me to believe there are a lot of useless homework assignments, and in many cases these are “group” projects where parents run around ragged so their kids can meet with other kids to work on stuff that has no point.
I homeschooled my kids. They were done with their school work by noon on most days. We did more in less time, not because my kids are brilliant, but because we worked efficiently. When you take care of the basics, reading and math, everything else falls in line. Those two are prerequisites to learning everything else.
I have not been able to imagine any possible benefit or need for this assignment.
If the assignment was ‘innocent’ or benign as claimed, the school should have offered the girl an alternate assignment for the same credit. Offering a second choice happens a lot in schools. I think the schools just did not like having to explain themselves to a “mere” parent of a student.
They seem to have the same mindset as most public schools, believing they (the school) is above reproach and all knowing.
The teacher requested a photo of the child reading homework in the bathtub...
When the parent rightfully complained, the teacher replied, ‘You should be in pajamas, be in your uniform, have fun with it.’
Why be in the bathtub with your pajamas or uniform on??????
The teacher wanted a nude photo of the kid...THAT IS OBVIOUS
This assignment is akin to a creepy old uncle that likes to play “I’ve-got-your-nose” while putting it in his pocket and asking the kid to reach in and find it.
sue their asses
A ‘Christian’ school allowed this?????
If my daughter came home from school with an assignment from a male teach asking for a photograph of them in the bathtub the LAST thing that teacher would have to worry about is the subsequent visit from the police.
In fact he would probably be calling them himself for protection.
I would have withdrawn my child immediately. What else is going on in that not so Christian school?
Teacher and pastor were both hoping to see a little sumpin’ sumpin’. Maybe no bubbles or a shower show. The whole idea is sickening. Which curriculum published this assignment??? Those parents should contact the Southern Baptist Convention.
Pen, pencil, paper, book, laptop ... I can’t think of one thing that should be used over water.
The pedophiles at the school got caught.
