I look at it as having attributes of both an investment and insurance.
I’ll bet Germany and several other EU countries would really like to see those Ukie gas fields opened up in competition with Russia, too. That’d actually be good for us, too, indirectly. Contrary to some tinfoil theories running amuck, a strong Europe has more benefit to the US (esp. under a Trump level-field trade scenario) than detriment.

It’s just possible that the issue between Ukraine and Russia might allow some increase in the real Euro unification.
