The REALLY big problem here is Pooty waving around nuclear blackmail, which Trump spotted right away and came down on hard. Well, maybe not right away, Pooty was pushing that even before invading Ukraine (again). But I can’t expect PDJT to have watched every conference Pooty ever spoke at.
It’s bad enough that half(?) of FR doesn’t seem to recognize the repercussions if the US and UK decide to walk away from the Budapest Memorandum (Ukraine agreed to give up its many nukes in return for security guarantees). Russia signed on too, but then who really expects Pooty to keep any such agreement.
THIS present situation, though... If Russia / Pooty succeeds, you better go ahead and put Geiger counters in your will for all your descendants. I’ll bet Germany and several other EU countries would really like to see those Ukie gas fields opened up in competition with Russia, too. That’d actually be good for us, too, indirectly. Contrary to some tinfoil theories running amuck, a strong Europe has more benefit to the US (esp. under a Trump level-field trade scenario) than detriment.
