Jack Ross is a British volunteer aid worker helping to deliver supplies to the Ukrainian front line.
He returned to Ukraine from his UK home as soon as news broke of the Ukrainian army's successful Kharkiv offensive.
"My role in going over there early is to make sure that recently liberated people have enough food to survive," said Jack, explaining his initial plan was to return in November before the counter-offensive changed everything.
He added: "We saw after the Russians stopped occupying places like Bucha, Irpin and Chernihiv they literally killed every living being in sight… Just to deprive the local population of any food sources."
His return was so last minute, he had to do without his usual band of British-led Vans Without Borders volunteers, instead enlisting the help of Eduard and Justin who provided the necessary support as they travelled along dangerous bombed-out roads.
En route, they met Commander Oleg Shiryaev, who was pivotal in granting them outsider access to the heavily restricted Kharkiv areas.
After giving aid to people living in Izyum, Jack and his team headed to Donetsk, to give food to rural villagers living close to the frontline. Their time there was cut short as security advisors warned anyone who was not military personnel to evacuate due to a 'Russian rocket attack in Kramatorsk'.
"It’s concerning when our security advisor friends said they’ve left already and we’ve got to get out sharpish," said Jack as he and his team packed up and sped out of Donetsk.

The inhabitants of Donetsk Oblast will be happy when the Orkrainian terrorists who are shelling them get rubbed out in Bakhmut.
Yeah, they pretty much have just pulled their masks fully off and are just straight up creating and posting up ‘yellow journalism’ outlandish levels of propaganda BS.
If it were my animals they were firing on, I would have probably ended up dead. But I would have taken some of them first.
Why aren’t you over there baking cookies or doing something useful?
‘Utter ferocity’: See the devastating scene in a newly-liberated Ukrainian town

As Ukrainian forces make further gains in the eastern region of Donetsk, CNN’s Nick Paton Walsh reports from a newly-liberated monastery town in the region, where local residents spent seven months underground while Russian forces occupied their homes.
“If it were my animals they were firing on, I would have probably ended up dead. But I would have taken some of them first.”
It is sick that they killed the animals just to starve the people.
Yeah I feel for the people as well.
I agree.
The inhabitants of Donetsk Oblast will be happy when Putin’s Orcs are gone from region.
Russians just can’t stop being monsters, can they?
good thing they’re in fast retreat now ... Putin’s botched invasion is getting pushed back more every day
in the meantime, enjoy those sanctions!
“doing something useful”
Glad you asked. I am al about being useful.
What do you think war has been like since time inmemorable? That’s why it should be avoided.
“Monsters”? Come up with more creative terminology, kthx?
Besides, those who are informed, such as the majority of the people in the 4 regions that voted to join Russia, know exactly who the “monsters” are, be assured, and they will tell you too. But don’t mind them.......carry on.
Don't be stepping on al baby's turf, Mumsie.
Soon, little Zel, soon.
An example of the Scorched Earth policy.
