That’s my experience as a native Californian. Hispanics beyond first generation tend to be culturally no different than anyone else.
I’ve talked to a number of Latino people, and they view
illegal immigration very negatively.
One perception they have, is that their ancestors came and
worked their asses off to make it here. They view those
who come today as jumping on government programs and
stealing those services from citizens, of whom they
happen to be now.
There’s bitterness about it.
I said over 30 years ago, if the Republican party would
just pull their head out of their ___, they’d realize
all they need to do is promote law and order in their
communities, and stick to strong Christian values.
Mexican ex-patriots would vote for them en mass.
Now they seem to be figuring it out. But I am reminded
of the Republican’s ability to steal defeat out of the
jaws of victory.
