Was there a British law or constitution that forbade our declaration of independence? No.
Does the Ukrainian constitution address referenda and autonomy?
Yes. It states that ALL Ukrainians, not just those in the affected areas, get to vote on the matter. This was the issue a few years ago when the Donbas talked of seceding; when Kyiv pointed this out, the separatists’ sponsor, Russia, cried FOUL!
