Many, many moons ago I took college level introductory calculus, chemistry, physics courses in high school.

High schools don’t offer those any more...?

Story from my experience . Both of my daughters went to Catholic schools for all of their schooling. When the youngest was in a Catholic HS, a woman who lives in our neighborhood had 2 children in public school. Well, her eldest daughter was in "advanced" classes; or, so she thought.

It turned out that the "advanced" classes were just the regular classes but with students who were there to learn (I guess that would have been A and B students). When this info got out, the parents got upset and so the public school decided that the fix for all of this was to not have any advanced classes.

So, she called me up about our Catholic HS and she went over there that same week to put her daughter into the Catholic school (and into the "advanced" classes they had which were tied into a local Catholic college, IOWs, college level class).

When my youngest daughter went to college (she had attended the same HS), she took a Junior level (she had qualified for that level via testing) English class and was amazed at how little the other students knew. She was aware of all of the things that they were doing, because she had already done them in HS. The public school kids had not a clue about this stuff.

Public school does not prepare kids for advanced learning any more. My daughter and her husband took his son (from a previous marriage) out of the public school he was in (reportedly one of the best public schools in the area), and put him into the local Catholic school because the public school did not offer the next level of math that he was ready for.

No room in the schedule.

What in heck is intro calculus? To get into calculus, I had to retake Algebra 1, 2, then Trig. BFD.
