Maybe we did it, but no one knows. Who benefits? Hardly the US does. OTOH, just the suspicion that the US did it harms our relationship with Europe. Maybe the intent was to create just that: suspicion and doubt. The game would be to push a wedge between us and NATO, to cast us as an unstable actor, one whose goals do not always align with those of our allies. In that case, Russia benefits.

Germany is a few months away from burning their dead to stay warm. When Germans start freezing, there's a good chance they're going to demand that their government make a deal with Russia to get the gas turned back on.
Germany easing sanctions would cause the NATO alliance in Ukraine to crumble.
Well, they can't do that now. The pipeline has mysteriously been blown up.
