DeSantis can put a stop to all of this divisive crap by coming out with one statement....”I will not be running for president in 2024. If President Trump does NOT choose to run, I will consider all of my options.”

He’s not going to do that.

After he throttles Crist next month and is re-elected in a landslide, everyone in his inner circle is going to implore him to run in ‘24.

Why should he limit his options?

If true, this does not help Trump at all.

Trying to silence the loyal opposition is a Democrat ploy.

He should “limit his options” for the sake of the country. This isn’t a climb up the corporate ladder - it’s the end of the country he could be playing with.

If Desantis primaries President Trump, it will cause untold chaos. The base is very loyal to Trump, as the man has undergone massive abuse for the sake of America. They also know full well that DeSantis was only elected because Trump endorsed him. Turning around and trying to take his second term away from him would be such a knife in Trump’s back, as well as the base.

DeSantis would NOT get the turnout that Trump would get if he did such a thing. Many in the base would stay home, sad to say. So in a primary against Trump, DeSantis would have to criticize him, attack him, turn people against him. That would not fly.

I think DeSantis is terrific, but if he was to turn around and go against Trump, he would be nothing more than an ambitious, self-serving backstabber. DeSantis is young. He has lots of time. I would love to see DeSantis as VP, and work with Trump for 4 years to drain the swamp. They would be a great team. After that, DeSantis would be a hero and a shoe-in for president in 2028.

I stand by what I said - DeSantis needs to beat Crist soundly, then be prepared to be called on for VP. Having said that, if Trump decides to NOT run, DeSantis all the way. In the meantime, DeSantis needs to come out and put these rumors to bed, for good.

Let’s wait until after DeSantis beats the crap out of Crist.

Then we can continue this conversation.

Isn’t there a list of all contributions somewhere?

I’d like to see corroboration of these reports of donors veering towards Ron and away from Donald.

Agreed. I’d like to see the list as well, if it exists.

Turning around and trying to take his second term away from him would be such a knife in Trump’s back, as well as the base.

Trump needs to earn his nomination just like anyone else. He's not entitled to a coronation.

And he owes his supporters an explanation for the mistakes he made: handing the country over to Fauci and Birx and allowing them to destroy his economy, pushing an ineffective vaccine, promising $500 billion in reparations to blacks, filling his administration with imbeciles, backstabbers, and Deep Stage stooges, pardoning Kwame Kilpatrick, Rod Blagojevich, and a roster full of Wall Street swindlers.

He needs to convince people that he's going to get it right next time and do all of the great things we elected him to do last time. It's not going to be an easy sell for many.

Ron DeSantis is doing great things right now (to include likely getting re-elected). And he's also not going to be 78 years old on Election Day.

We’ll have to agree to disagree. I think Trump has already earned his nomination.

You’ll be a long way away from Pennsylvania.

You and your wife are quite adventurous.

Good luck in this new chapter of your life!

Thanks, miserare! Is our decision to live abroad adventurous?

We think it’s pragmatic. It’s allowed to simplify our lives and cash in our chips (and put them in savings) because continuing to maintain and pay the mortgage on a 2,200 square foot house that only two people live in is to not fully enjoy our retirement.

Also, living in Georgia is not the best choice for a Japanese cuisine-loving couple. But even the area of Hanoi where we rented an apartment, we can WALK to a better-stocked Japanese grocery store than you can find anywhere east of the Mississippi except for Fort Lee, New Jersey across the Hudson from NYC.

I’m putting together a vanity on what we’ve learned in Hanoi so far. I’ll forward the link to you when it’s posted. Cheers.

Fully understand desiring a more simple life and the fact you’ve moved out of country (considering your ties to Japan).
As to adventure.... LOL the world is experiencing more than enough at the moment! The home state of Texas has just about
all one can handle.

Do drop in from time to time, keeping us up to date on pertinent happenings. Once nested and the dust has settled
rejoice in the fact this is likely to be the last major move
you will experience. Moving is hard work, both physically and mentally.
Best wishes!

VK, the motor-mouth in me can't help himself -- there's no fear I'll run out of things to say on Free Republic.

And speaking of "nested" and "dust settled", my wife's got another idea: we might roam around from house to house for the better part of a year before we settle.

Here's a 2019 story about a service called ADDress in Japan that allows people to pay a flat fee per month to choose from a few hundred homes or apartments throughout the country to stay in, two weeks (or a month) at a time.

ADDress-ing Japan’s vacant house issue

My wife wants to find a community where there's a Pickleball community, so jumping around a bit at minimal cost is probably worth the trouble if you can travel light and use trains to get from one place to the next.

So I think this is going to be fun, and we'll get a chance to see the country and see what each place has to offer.

Of course, getting approval to stay in Japan in the first place is not a done-deal yet, so we're keeping our fingers crossed.
