English Football Association chief executive Mark Bullingham says he has been told LGBTQ+ fans won't be arrested for holding hands or kissing in public at the World Cup in Qatar.
The LGBTQ+ community had raised concerns over how safe they will be at the tournament in November-December as same-sex sexual activity is illegal in the Gulf state.
Some English LGBTQ+ fans will reportedly stay away from the World Cup because they have not received adequate assurances.
But Bullingham revealed on Wednesday that he has been told police in Qatar are briefed to be tolerant during the tournament.

But by tolerating a breaking of their laws, it reinforces the continual pattern of the cowardice of the law enforcement people to do what their laws designate. If they are going to sanction a behavior inconsistent with their law, then maybe the law should be removed permanently if it is not important enough to enforce. Either that or get a backbone.
We have the same thing here in the US. We have violent crimes in cities across the country and we only enforce those laws that the politicians want often inconsistent with the law’s creation. The perps are protected and even coddled in some situations. And we call this a government by the people. No backbone and listening to the threat of defunding if you do your job? That makes both sides wrong there. One is intimidated to do wrong and the other doesn’t care about the people they were elected to protect. The scales of justice are balanced that way. And the voters keep putting them in there or allowing them to put themselves in.
