🇺🇸 It was most often for real religious persecution reasons, or due to being Jewish, but I have (in person) personally helped dozens of Russian believers/non-ROC Christian’s, Jewish people, and other Russian friends and students get visa’s to the US (and Israel, as early on Russia didn’t allow for an Israeli Consulate), from the US Embassy in Moscow over the years.
In some cases, because they had been denied medical treatment due to continued participation with Unregistered Evangelical churches, and they or their children were very sick. In some cases it was life and death. Also helped get American MD’s into Russia, who would diagnose and try to treat many persecuted Christians and Jews, and that was through the 1990’s, 2000’s, and 2010’s.
In many cases, it was very hard, as while every Russian has a national passport, of course no Russian could/can travel internationally without a Russian issued International Passport (or for that matter visit or live in any city other than HoR without the passport being registered with local police, which they are charged for daily, and must state the purpose for the visit, where they are staying, and how long they will be there).
Multuple times I had to try and intervene with Russian authorities to get re-issued National and International Passports for Jewish people, and other penalized and persecuted Christians, just to be able to visit Moscow, so they could see Western medical doctors, or even work with the US Embassy.
In some cases our efforts failed.
There were several cases, but we once lost a beautiful little girl, who died due to mercury poisoning, as we couldn’t get treatment for her fast enough. I really really tried. Her parents had lost their healthcare due to being members of an Unregistered Baptist Church, which often met in a forest or chicken coup outside of Moscow. I had the true privilege of visiting that group.
In a more than year long effort to get their healthcare back, they stopped attending the Unregistered Baptist Church. But the authorities just wanted them gone, and just laughed at them while their little girl was clearly dying without help.
Getting National Passports was prerequisite to obtaining International Passports, and was nearly as hard as getting International Passports for US sponsored Russian orphans, so we could get them a visa. In many of those cases, we learned they had been taken from there parents while significantly younger, because their parents had been involved with unregistered Evangelical churches.
In efforts to obtain Russian International Passports for 17 to near 18 year old orphans, we had to establish fake birth dates and always pay bribes, as Russian vital record offices always refused to give us the entirely legal, but required information, or didn’t have any record of them.
My interaction with some of the Christian’s landed me in a Russian jail once, and I was in “diplomatic status”.

If I searched for current crime stories a few months ago the news stories of the ambush shootings of officers by thugs were rerouted by Google algorithms to “unarmed black teen shot by police” and other similar stories. Many pages down to the genuine ones of officer killed by thugs.
Oddly* enough, YouTube bombards me with crime stories from around the country. A search for your crime story on YT might provide better results than Google. A search for local news sources are best.
* I do not log in to YouTube, I can’t subscribe , follow or comment but they provide plenty of the content I look for.

Google and Youtube use the same basic algorithm. Search for one subject will get you more results on the same subject most likely more radical. Google/youtube are marketing engines first, gotta sell those ads.
