Imagine putting your base in that position - to choose between the man, one who has already proven himself, who has given so much, and was cheated out of his second term, and another man who you think is the perfect successor.

I could vote for the guy who promised to do a bunch of great stuff the first time around but instead surrounded himself with backstabbers, imbeciles and Deep State stooges before handing the country over to Fauci and Birx during his final year in office. But I'm told next time will be different. Next time he's really going to do all the stuff that he didn't do last time.

Or I could support the man who is doing all of this stuff now, and getting it done.

Don't get me wrong, if Trump EARNS the nomination, I'll vote for him (which is more than many Trump supporters on this forum will say about DeSantis) but he's got to earn it without my support because right now, I'm looking elsewhere.

I'm looking at actual accomplishments, not promises to get it right next time.

Well, considering what President Trump was up against, I think he accomplished an amazing amount of good. I couldn’t imagine wading into the brood of vipers he had to deal with. Even many of those who portrayed themselves as friends, were cutthroats. I don’t blame him for not knowing exactly who is friend and who is foe - so difficult when you HAVE to work with so many, and so many are swamp dwellers, Pence being the worst.

Having said that, so many of the base feel so loyal to President Trump for what he has endured, that they would resent the hell out of DeSantis for doing this when he’s young enough to wait, perhaps serve as VP, and then run as a hero, with 4 years working with Trump, and a shoe-in.

Well said. MAGA is more than feel good rallies. The Dems have proven they can work successfully by using that as a foil, working destruction behind the scenes while PT Barnum is out front distracting the people.
