Senate ratifies climate treaty that will raise cost of home appliances 'The last thing the American people need right now is another household necessity rising in price'

The Senate on Wednesday ratified an international treaty that mandates nations to phase out hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) to protect the earth’s ozone layer, which will impose new standards that will raise the costs of air conditioning and refrigeration.

A group of 50 Senate Democrats and 19 Republicans voted to pass the Kigali Amendment to the 1987 United Nations (UN) Montreal Protocol. The amendment, which 27 Republicans voted to oppose, will limit the production and use of HFCs, man-made chemicals that are primarily used for cooling and refrigeration, by 85% over 15 years, which could substantially increase consumer and business costs in related industries.

This is already implemented with new appliances. It’s basically the Freon that was replaced with a different substance. Majority of Americans won’t even know the difference when they purchase their new appliances. The only thing I hate is that appliances don’t last as long as they used to. But I don’t think that has anything to do with the climate change proposal.

So Cotton voted against it, Boozman voted for it. I’m not voting for him this November, the SKUNK.

This treaty screws over anybody living in the southern United States. The ONLY reasons the Repugnican whores voted for it is because they got bribed with goodies from the rent-seeking domestic makers of alternative refrigerants.

NOT GOOD

Your new system already had the requirements in this bill. So you’re already in compliance with the Senate. Congratulations!

They’re going back to using hydrocarbons. Yes, highly flammable refrigerants.

Most would immediately consider this a direct threat to their ability to simply cool their homes and stop right there.... “Ok.. so my utility bill is going up again”

Unfortunately, it’s far bigger.

Think for example about he cost of keeping produce and meats refrigerated from the field to the local grocery store.

You can pretty much say Bye-Bye to your local supermarket.

Their daily cooling costs DWARF our monthly utility bills.

If you recently purchased a refrigerator look at the manufacturer’s data label. Your refidgerant is likely cyclopentane, which is highly flammable. Flurocarbon refrigerants were originally developed to be a nonflammable and relatively non toxic refrigerant. Thanks to the green mania we now have a bomb in our kitchens.

Trouble is, it’s now a treaty (and not just a bogus Obama “treaty” that didn’t get a supermajority of the Senate), so we’re stuck with it for the duration. No workarounds for the future in case these dumb@$$e$ ever get ousted.

I remember the hoopla over the lightbulbs. People would buy the old lightbulbs in mass quantities because they were thinking it was a rip off. Now people have them up their attic just collecting dust because they know the LEDs are the perfect light. This is just nonsense scared of change. And it’s a vicious cycle that goes on anytime something changes. It will continue until the end of time.

You are right on target. And now it’s a treaty, so the courts won’t touch it, even if they come to see that the Climate Change racket is all Bullstuff.

> TOTALLY UNCONSTITUTIONAL!!!! <

According to the Constitution, ratification of a treaty requires 2/3 of the Senate to vote yes. They got their 2/3.

But I still think you’re right. This treaty will evidently force domestic companies to do (or not do) certain things. No treaty can force such compliance! That would take a law passed by both Houses, and then signed by the President. We sure don’t have that here.

So if this vote is just a meaningless gesture, okay. But if anyone tries to enforce this treaty, the courts should slap them down, hard.

19 Republicans voted for this crap??? Why are alleged conservatives this stupid?

Answer: because they’re not really conservative, of course.

If you bought a new refrigerator in the last decade, it’s already in compliance. If You buy a new air conditioner it’s already in compliance. The senate is just catching up to what the changes are. you do know the senate is always behind on everything.

Oh, I’m not arguing against the use of ammonia as a refrigerant. It has some definite advantages in terms of cost and efficiency. There would be a lot of yammering from the greenies about how ammonia is a dangerous air pollutant; in fact, there already is.

Using PTFEs in seals and such may prove to be a problem when they eventually outlaw those compounds.
